Health & Safety Advisor | Battersea, London | £50-55K + benefits
Our client is a co-educational independent school in Battersea, providing education for students aged 10 to 18. The school offers excellent facilities for sports, music, drama, and the arts. The Health & Safety Advisor reports to the Director of Operations and works closely with an external Health & Safety Consultant to ensure compliance with health and safety legislation while promoting a positive safety culture. Key responsibilities include:
- Conduct audits on facilities and working practices to ensure health and safety compliance.
- Monitor and support audit findings and necessary actions.
- Work with external professionals to review policies and procedures.
- Ensure preparedness for inspections and compliance with regulations.
- Provide updates to the Health & Safety Committee on audits, drills, and incidents.
- Maintain and oversee health and safety documentation and certifications.
- Supervise risk assessments and create a central register for easy access.
- Support COSHH risk assessments and maintain a central register.
- Serve as a first aider and assist with first aid coordination.
- Conduct regular safety inspections and prioritise action plans.
- Review and update policies to maintain compliance and implementation.
- Provide contractor safety inductions and ensure compliance with risk assessments.
- Undertake any other related tasks as required by management.
Qualifications & Experience
- NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent
- Property management, compliance and Occupational Health & Safety background (Essential)
- Health and safety leadership in a large organisation (Essential)
- Policy and procedure development in health and safety (Essential)
- Managing health & safety compliance and small teams, including contractors (Essential)
- Experience in an educational setting (Desirable)
- Building project and maintenance experience (Desirable)
- Knowledge of safeguarding and independent school standards (Desirable)

- Self-starter with strong problem-solving skills and initiative
- Ability to balance operational and financial constraints
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
- Excellent organisation, project management, and IT skills
