An inspiring SEN school dedicated to supporting pupils with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and Autism from 5-11 years of age is seeking a passionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to join their team as soon as possible. This full-time, long-term role offers the potential for a permanent position following a successful term or two.

About the School

All pupils have an Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP) and have faced significant barriers to learning in mainstream education. The school prioritises creating a safe and nurturing environment that empowers pupils and fosters a strong commitment to raising standards and promoting a positive school culture.

Key Responsibilities

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Support pupils—individually or in small groups—in their learning and development
  • Engage and de-escalate any forms of dysregulation throughout the school day
  • Act as a mentor and 1:1 emotional support system
  • Be a dependable presence, ensuring students feel valued
  • Adapt flexibly to the flow of the day, maintaining professionalism even when plans change
  • Supervise external/internal examinations
  • Ensure safety and security, assisting with off-site activities and pupil supervision
  • Follow safeguarding policies, reporting concerns immediately according to school procedure

The Senior Leadership Team is looking for someone who: Has prior experience working with SEMH and ASD pupils (highly desirable) Can think on their feet and stay calm under pressure Has a proactive, can-do attitude and isn’t afraid to get ‘stuck in’ Approaches challenges with humour and resilience—no two days are the same! You will need a DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to undergo a new check), have the right to work in the UK (not able to sponsor), minimum grade C GCSE Maths and English and a genuine desire to help pupils with Autism and Social Emotional Mental Health Needs.
