Major Recruitment are currently recruiting for a Grounds Maintenance Operative/ Cleaner in the city of London to support the Environment Department

Basic Pay: £15.70

Working Hours: Monday to Thursday 8.00am till 16.00 Friday 8.00 till 16.00

Purpose

To maintain the Grounds, Memorial Gardens, offices and public conveniences of the City of London Cemetery and Crematorium to the highest standards of appearance and to maintain good relationships with mourners, visitors, and other cemetery staff at all times.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

• Carry out the cleaning of offices, training room and all public conveniences at the cemetery and crematorium site ensuring a high standard of appearance is maintained. . Clean staff canteens, offices, locker room, toilets, and the training facility as required and proactively check that all areas are maintained to a high standard of cleanliness

• Drive a utility vehicle or cycle within the grounds of the cemetery & crematorium site and in a safe manner at all times.
• Carry out grass cutting duties using a variety of different industrial motorised machinery to a high professional standard. Undertake leaf and grass raking duties as required. Sweep roadways and paths and proactively ensure these are kept tidy at all times.
• Undertake turf laying in designated areas to a high professional standard.
• Top up, level and re-turf sunken areas to ensure a high standard of appearance.
• Undertake the planting of roses, shrubs and flowers in designated areas using correct horticultural techniques.
• Provide assistance to visitors to the cemetery and crematorium, providing information or guidance as necessary and ensure all tasks are undertaken with sensitivity to mourners and the bereaved.
• Proactively check and report on any damage on site whether it be through wear and tear, vandalism or animal activity and assist with its repair and maintenance.
