The role

As an assessor, you will join our in-house Assessor team to assess people professionals applying for membership of the CIPD (via Upgrading and Experience Assessment) and for occupational competence via End-Point Assessment (Level 3, Level 5, and Level 7 HR & L&D Apprenticeships). You’ll hold responsibility for a standard or assessment process. You’ll provide assessment expertise and act as a CIPD expert and ambassador in assessment.

Key Accountabilities

  • Be the main point of expertise for an assessment standard or assessment process. This includes: maintaining assessor and candidate guidance; developing standardisation materials; leading the quality assurance programme and answering technical assessment queries.
  • Undertake End-Point Assessments for Apprenticeships: review and grade written assignments, conduct virtual professional discussions with candidates, make final decisions on outcomes for candidates using an evidence-based approach against the relevant standards and provide a clear rationale for the apprentice.
  • Conduct Experience Assessment for HR professionals applying for membership of CIPD at Associate, Chartered Member and Fellow grade. Review and assess candidate written submissions and evidence provided and undertake virtual discussions via Teams with candidates. Make final decisions on membership outcomes and provide candidates with insightful feedback, a clear plan for development, and career and professional development advice.
  • Conduct Upgrading assessments: undertake virtual and form-based assessments for Chartered Member and Chartered Fellow grades of the CIPD and make final decisions on membership for candidates using an evidence-based approach against CIPD membership standards. Provide insightful feedback and a clear plan for development in cases where candidates fail to meet the required standards.
  • Contribute to the Assessment Quality Assurance programme. Undertake peer review assessments to ensure grading decisions are consistently applied and comply with external regulatory bodies where appropriate.
  • Support the Assessment Manager by taking part in activities to build the capability of our external assessor pool.
  • Support the Assessment Manager in investigating and responding to candidate appeals and complaints.
  • Work with Assessment Operations Manager to identify service improvements that deliver operational efficiencies, better customer service and commercial benefits (increased sales, cost savings etc).
  • Support the promotion of CIPD membership and services at client events and CIPD conferences, including presenting to small groups, running webinars and representing the CIPD at events such as ACE and the Festival of Work.

Knowledge, Qualifications And Experience

  • Experienced people professional with strong experience in H&R and/or L&D and a good appreciation of strategic and functional people practice in a range of organisations/sectors (minimum of 5 years as required by ifATE)
  • Chartered Membership or Fellowship of CIPD (or willing to be sponsored to gain Chartered membership)
  • Proven track record in assessment delivery with experience of competency based interviewing and broader assessment against rigorous criteria (such as assessment / development centres, psychometrics, complex LNA)
  • Technical and management expertise to assess against all areas of the standards
  • Understanding of any qualification used within the apprenticeships
  • Excellent interpersonal and feedback skills, able to speak knowledgably and credibly with people professionals at all levels
  • Excellent written and communication skills
  • Confidence in evidence-based decision making and ability to validate outcomes
  • The ability to juggle priorities and be flexible in approach to work
  • Confident with external engagement and delivering presentations and assessments via webinar or face to face
  • Robust digital skills and confidence using new and developing technologies
  • No conflict of interest, past or current impacting on assessment of candidates.
