Beam

At Beam, you get to do work that matters. We’re solving the world’s toughest social problems. And we’re growing fast

It’s not easy. Nothing worth doing ever is. But we take care of everyone who works here with everything from coaching to personal budgets and pay highly competitively.

You’ll be joining a company that’s having a huge impact on people’s lives with a culture where you can be yourself, have fun and progress rapidly.

We’re quickly expanding the breadth of our product offering at Beam with revolutionary, AI-powered products that have the potential to transform the effectiveness of case workers and social workers globally - our first one is Magic Notes. Between these products, there’s a huge amount of exciting and important work to do, and we need more folks to join our experienced engineering team.

We’ve already seen incredible growth from our MagicNotes product - that is helping case workers save over 8 hours a week of admin. Our usage has increased drastically over the last few months and we are now processing 1000+ hours of audio from case workers a week. This is just the beginning.

The opportunity at Beam

We are seeking a highly skilled IT and Information Security Manager to join our team. You will oversee and manage Beam's IT infrastructure and information security strategies - making us more efficient, productive and secure. We’re looking for someone who has deep technical abilities and stakeholder management to drive out the future of our IT systems. You are the sort of person who loves finding automations and efficiencies in IT - so much so that everything “just works”.

What you’ll be doing

This is an incredible opportunity for someone to have complete ownership of our IT systems end-to-end. If you are someone who has seen all the great IT tools out there and wondered “why can’t we implement this?”, then this role could be perfect for you.

  • Developing the overall IT and security strategy alongside the CISO and CTO to support all our business operations - you’ll have the chance to bring your best ideas to the table

  • Implementing security and compliance measures for our systems with the right tools - caring about productivity and ensuring it doesn’t impede our ability to go fast

  • Focus on automating our IT set-up and bringing in the right technologies and tools to help us go faster, but safely and with all the compliance checks

  • Manage our risk and security through audits and device management that is easy to maintain as well as bringing in the right procedures to manage compliance

  • Liaising with external partners, e.g pentesters, to detect and respond to vulnerabilities

  • Responsible for ensuring IT / Security awareness and training at Beam

  • Bringing in the right hardware and software that helps us do our jobs in the best way possible, whilst maintaining a budget

Who we’re looking for
  • You deeply care about IT being a service that exists but isn’t noticeable. Things just work and it's all down to the processes you’ve put in place

  • You are autonomous and have a bias to action - the ownership of this area is vast and you will have to make decisions and problem solve quickly and effectively

  • You’ve managed IT infrastructure at scale before - you might not have been the owner of it, but have worked in a highly productive team and want that step up now

  • You’ll have over 5+ years experience in the IT world - worked in potentially similar-sized organisations or places that have experienced high growth

  • You have a deep and broad knowledge of IT software, networking and cybersecurity and are always looking for smarter ways to implement processes

  • Proficiency in security tools and technologies such as firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and antivirus software.

  • You have gone through the dance of implementing compliance frameworks such as ISO 27001, NIST, GDPR, and HIPAA.

  • You not only look at the processes in place, but the cost of them and deeply care about making businesses more efficient both monetarily and process-wise

We're committed to advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion through our work as an organisation, and that starts with the team we build. 53% of the people we support are from global majority backgrounds and 17% have disabilities. We believe we serve these people best when we’re a diverse and inclusive team. To that end, we particularly welcome applications from global majority candidates and/or those who’ve experienced social disadvantage.

What we’ll give back to you

  • £60,000-80,000 (dependent on experience - we'll have an open discussion)

  • Generous EMI-qualifying share options.

  • Access to therapy, coaching, classes & content - powered by Oliva.

  • 1:1 workplace coaching with More Happi.

  • Your own financial well-being coach, through Bippit.

  • Generous Holiday - 25 days 3 additional days over the Christmas period + bank holidays.

  • Work remotely up to 6 weeks a year.

  • Eligible for 6 weeks sabbatical after 3 years in service.

  • Nursey scheme through Gogeta.

  • Healthcare cover through Benenden Health.

  • Enhanced parental leave: Primary Caregiver leave 18 weeks and Secondary Caregiver leave 4 weeks.

  • £200 WellBeam budget for activities enhancing wellbeing and professional development.

  • Regular team talks from leading UK tech entrepreneurs.

  • Annual membership to Shoreditch Exchange gym.

  • Pension scheme where we contribute 3% of your salary and you contribute 5%.

  • Free subscription to Calm meditation app.

  • Discounted bike and accessories with Cyclescheme, and tech products with Techscheme.

We work hard to make sure every employee is given the freedom, tools, trust, and support to do the best work of their careers.

All our interviews are currently conducted over Google Meet. It usually takes us a week to get back to you after each round. Due to a high number of applications, we are unfortunately unable to offer feedback before Round 2. Feedback for subsequent rounds is always provided.

Application process

We take hiring seriously. We have a 3-stage interview process, giving you plenty of time to learn about Beam while we get to know you.

  1. 30 mins with our Talent team

  2. 1 hour with David Annez (CTO) and Stuart Murray (CISO)

  3. 1 hour with Sasha Watson (Chief People Officer)

Good luck!
