Senior Fire Engineer – Risk & Structural Focus | LondonA dynamic, multidisciplinary consultancy with a strong reputation for technical excellence is seeking a Senior Fire Engineer with a specialist focus on risk assessment and structural fire engineering. Based in London, this is a strategic opportunity to influence high-profile projects, integrate fire safety deeply within structural and architectural design, and lead on advanced fire engineering solutions within a rapidly expanding team.As a key senior team member, you will lead complex fire risk assessments, support structural resilience strategies, and ensure that fire safety is embedded across the project lifecycle—from concept to construction. Your technical leadership will help shape the direction of the firm’s fire engineering capabilities, with clear progression into management or expert consultancy tracks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the development and delivery of comprehensive fire risk assessments and structural fire safety strategies across a broad portfolio of buildings, including high-risk and high-rise structures
- Collaborate closely with structural engineers, architects, and multidisciplinary design teams to integrate fire safety into structural design and material selection
- Provide technical oversight and peer review of fire engineering analysis, including fire resistance calculations, performance-based design, and structural fire impact assessments
- Represent the firm in technical discussions with clients, approving authorities, and insurers, providing robust justification for design decisions
- Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning
- Contribute to project risk reviews, advising on fire-related construction risks and mitigation strategies
- Conduct site inspections and support construction-phase fire safety validation and structural interface coordination
- Prepare and deliver detailed technical reports, fire strategies, and risk assessments in line with UK Building Regulations (Approved Document B), BS 9999, BS 7974, and international best practices
Required Experience & Skills:
- Minimum 5+ years’ experience in fire engineering, with demonstrable experience in structural fire assessments and performance-based design
- Strong command of UK Building Regulations, BS 9999, BS 7974 methodologies, and experience in liaising with regulatory bodies
- Expertise in fire risk assessment, including probabilistic and deterministic approaches, and passive/active fire protection strategies
- Familiarity with Eurocode Part 1-2, structural materials under fire exposure, and structural fire modeling
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Microsoft Office; experience with Revit, FDS, SAFIR, or similar structural/fire analysis tools is a strong plus
- Confident communicator with experience presenting complex technical information to clients, insurers, and approval authorities
- Able to lead multiple projects and teams with minimal supervision in a high-performance, collaborative environment
