- About the role
- We are looking for a proactive and dedicated Children Missing Education (CME) Officer to support the CME Lead Officer in ensuring the Council fulfils its legal responsibilities to the highest standards, in line with current legislation and Hillingdon’s CME policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support schools and council teams in identifying and monitoring children missing education, in line with the local CME policy.
- Provide expert advice and guidance to schools and colleagues, escalating concerns to the Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) when necessary.
- Attend Child in Need (CIN) and Child Protection (CP) meetings as required.
- Carry out thorough tracking of children, liaising with schools, other local authorities, and external agencies.
- Advise schools on appropriate processes for removing children from the school roll, ensuring accurate documentation and case recording.
- Undertake home visits where necessary to engage with families and gather information.
- Contribute to the School Attendance Order process.
- Maintain accurate monitoring and statistical records to support service planning and reporting.
Qualifications:
- 5 GCSEs (including English and Maths) or NVQ Level 3 in a relevant field.
- A recognised qualification in a related area such as education, youth work, or child and family development is desirable.
- Experience working directly with children, young people, and families—particularly those facing social challenges.
- Proven track record of working with educational settings, including schools, academies, colleges, training providers, and employers to support young people's participation and engagement.
- Strong understanding of safeguarding principles and how to support vulnerable families.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage your own workload and work independently as well as part of a team.
- A good understanding of the barriers faced by families and children and the ability to help them access appropriate support.
- This role is subject to an enhanced DBS check.
- You must be willing to work flexibly to meet service demands, including supporting other teams within the Access to Education Service.
- Annual leave is generally expected to be taken during school holidays.
