Position Details
The Assistant Business Development Manager (known internally as Assistant Product Manager) will support various aspects of business strategy formulation and business development for one or more of Kobre & Kim’s core products.
This role supports driving profitability and has a high level of autonomy / responsibility and frequent direct access to decision-makers (Founding Partners, senior business leaders, partners), which is unique in the professional services industry. It calls for strong entrepreneurial, interpersonal and analytical skills with an emphasis on synthesizing data into actionable recommendations to drive business development (BD) efforts.

Primary Responsibilities
Business Strategy & Product Development:
- Develop deep understanding of the sources of the firm’s valuable referrals and where it can expand and cultivate its network to drive future business.
- Collect, analyze and interpret firm data (including matter revenue, referral history, and relationships) to make compelling cases for the allocation of firm resources in pursuit of business opportunities.
- Through independent research and collaboration with the firm’s lawyers, develop an understanding of novel or creative legal tactics which the firm deploys to solve client problems. Consolidate into case studies and model messaging for BD conversations.
- Assist firm leadership to identify gaps in the existing legal team’s skillset that may impede the firm’s ability to solve emerging client problems. Propose training modules and/or recruiting plans to fill those gaps.
- Develop agendas, talking points, and PowerPoint slides to prepare firm leadership for firm meetings and presentations aimed at enhancing lawyer activity. Develop actionable and compelling messaging around strategic priorities, novel legal tactics, and business development best practices.
- Drive and manage profit generating BD initiatives with the goal of generating new business leads, expanding existing referral relationships, and identifying and pursuing clearly outlined initiatives.
- Work with senior lawyers and Strategy leaders to build practical, achievable and ambitious action plans for driving activity among the firm’s market-facing assets to expand and cultivate the network.
- Coach and support individual lawyers to achieve results. Ensure that metrics are established and regularly reported to track, reorient, and refine business-generating initiatives.
- Collaborate with marketing colleagues on thought leadership and content development, in addition to public relations and media outreach strategies.

- Superior writing, presentation and analytical ability, including the synthesis and communication of financial and quantitative data.
- Excellent attention to detail, follow-through and ability to anticipate and address business needs proactively.
- The ability to interact credibly, diplomatically, and effectively with all levels within the firm, tailoring communications for different groups and stakeholders.
- Management and interpersonal skills, including
- Understanding of project management
- Moderation of meetings and discussions
- Conflict resolution and delivery of feedback and difficult decisions
- Relationship cultivation with internal stakeholders
- Ability to exercise a high degree of professionalism, diplomacy, and confidentiality
- Cultural competence and an international mindset.
- Experience cultivating relationships with colleagues and contacts in your personal network.
- Familiarity with legal issues and cross-border disputes, or a strong intellectual curiosity to understand the firm’s work.
- Bachelor’s Degree and a strong GPA; Master’s Degree or other professional qualifications a plus
- Strong in MS Office Suite skills (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint);
- Flexibility to work additional hours as needed
- Occasional travel as needed
