Senior Mechanical Estimator
Perm – London
£70k - £85K – Depending on experience / qualification
A fantastic opportunity for an experienced Senior Mechanical Estimator to join a dynamic team within a Mechanical, Electrical & Building Services Company.
This role plays a key part in the pre-construction process, ensuring accurate and competitive tenders while maintaining best practices in health, safety, and environmental standards.
This role reports to the Head of Estimating & Sales.
Key Responsibilities:
- Promote best practices in health, safety, and environmental standards across all project stages.
- Prepare, review, and submit tenders with accurate cost assessments, minimising risk.
- Obtain multiple quotes to ensure market-competitive pricing.
- Work closely with clients, consultants, and subcontractors to negotiate contracts and proposals.
- Collaborate with internal teams for project cost assessments, financial planning, and tender handovers.
- Assist in implementing estimating software and developing a library of cost-related data.
- Prepare and present commercial aspects of tenders to senior leadership for approval.
- Maintain clear documentation of estimates, project accounts, and financial assessments.
- Support the development of a strong and reliable supply chain.
- Train and mentor junior staff members.
Required Knowledge & Skills:
- Strong expertise in mechanical estimating, general construction, and contract management.
- In-depth understanding of measurement standards, estimating processes, and cost structures.
- Proficiency in estimation software, spreadsheets, and presentation tools.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills for client and stakeholder engagement.
- Ability to assess site conditions and read technical drawings, specifications, and contracts.
- Strong analytical skills to identify financial risks and opportunities within tenders.
Duties Include:
- Implement and comply with company policies and procedures, including health & safety and business management systems.
- Assist in refining and improving estimating and procurement procedures.
- Prepare subcontractor and material inquiries, review quotations, and recommend alternatives.
- Provide accurate cost breakdowns for all required project resources.
- Maintain and control project documentation from the initial inquiry to project award.
- Contribute to business development and client relationship management.
- Assist in contract reviews to ensure fair and balanced terms before signing.
- Participate in project meetings, including tender reviews, handovers, and post-contract assessments.
Meetings & Collaboration:
- Attend and contribute to sales, marketing, and project meetings.
- Conduct site visits and surveys as needed.
- Engage in team meetings, H&S discussions, and appraisals.
