About the role…

This is an exciting LRS role which will support two labs: the Heard and the Turner lab. The former focuses on epigenetic processes, including X-chromosome inactivation, in order to learn more about the basic principles of gene regulation, and to explore the roles of chromatin modifications, chromosome organisation and non-coding RNAs on gene expression in development and disease. The Turner lab works on how sex chromosome evolution, and how sex chromosomes regulate germ cell and embryo development, with the principal aim being to develop more personalised disease therapies for men and women. The labs works collaboratively and extensively together and you will need to be a team player to succeed in this role.

This unique role will ensure that the wider range of operational functions and activities of the labs continues to run smoothly. You will support all scientific programmes in the labs and need exceptional organisational skills as well as experience in next generation sequencing technology and sequencing.

What you will be doing…

As an LRS at the Crick, you will:

• Assisting the Principal Laboratory Research Scientist in general laboratory organisation
• Assisting other lab members with research projects.

• Providing technical expertise/ input for the development, refinement and troubleshooting of relevant methodologies, in particular in the field of tissue culture, molecular biology (e.g., molecular cloning, generation of transgenic cell lines, genotyping and quantitative PCR).

• Participating in generation of large-scale datasets using protocols for embryonic stem cell culture, differentiation, next generation sequencing.

• Coordinating maintenance of mouse colonies with Biological Research Facility at Crick.

• Organisation and management of the laboratory on the daily basis, including maintaining laboratory databases, ordering of laboratory supplies, and routine maintenance of laboratory equipment.

About you…

The essential criteria you will bring…

• BSc in a relevant discipline, or equivalent experience in scientific subject
• Fundamentals of molecular biology and epigenetics
• Experience in next generation sequencing methodology and techniques (e.g., RNA-seq, ChIP-seq)
• Experience in cell culture
• Excellent organisational skills
