About the Data Visualisation team:

The Data Visualisation team at Policy Expert is responsible for bringing data to life through powerful, intuitive and actionable visualisations and reporting. The team owns, maintains, evolves and promotes the usage of our BI tooling (Looker), drives our strategic visualisation roadmap, and ensures that insights are accessible, actionable, and easily interpretable across the business. They empower business users with self-service capabilities, enabling independent exploration and confident, data-driven decision-making. They collaborate closely with other Group Data disciplines, Product management and business stakeholders to maximise the value of our data, continually adapting to industry trends and emerging technologies such as semantic layers, headless BI, and AI-powered insights.

Your day to day:

As a Data Visualisation Lead at Policy Expert, you will:

• Use a Design Thinking mindset and UX/UI best practice to build, and maintain compelling visualisations and dashboards in Looker, enabling the business to derive actionable insights quickly and intuitively.
• Take a leading role in setting the architectural and design standards for visualisation at Policy Expert, ensuring we minimise technical debt and key person dependencies, while creating a frictionless data experience for colleagues.
• Line manage a small team of developers, ensuring a culture of continuous learning, curiosity and playfulness to push the technical edge.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to deeply understand their needs, translating complex data into clear, impactful visual stories.
• Empower users across the business by providing accessible, user-friendly self-service BI solutions, improving data literacy and confidence.
• Work closely with Data Engineering and Data Analytics to ensure data availability, correctness, and alignment with visualisation requirements in our Data & Analytics Platform.
• Proactively identify opportunities to enhance visualisation capabilities, integrating emerging trends such as semantic layers, headless BI, and AI-powered insights.
• Act as an advocate and educator for best practices in data visualisation, continuously improving how the organisation engages with and leverages data.
  
  

Who are you:

• A skilled Data Visualisation and BI professional with 5+ years hands-on expertise in BI tools, preferably Looker, or equivalent platforms such as Power BI, Tableau or Qlik Sense.
• Experienced in delivering coherent and reliable reporting suites to large groups of users in a complex, fast moving data estate. You do BI at scale.
• Experienced in creating visually compelling, intuitive dashboards and reports that deliver clear, actionable insights, enabling quicker and better business decisions.
• Proficient in SQL and comfortable working with modern cloud data warehouses (preferably BigQuery on GCP).
• Passionate about turning complex data into simple, elegant visualisations that drive comprehension and engagement across diverse stakeholder groups.
• Confident collaborating with multiple business stakeholders to understand requirements, ensuring visualisations are user-focused, intuitive, and meaningful.
• Committed to fostering data literacy and empowering business users through self-service analytics capabilities.
• Enthusiastic about staying ahead of industry trends, continuously exploring and integrating innovative visualisation techniques and technologies.
• Strong communicator, able to effectively convey complex insights clearly and engagingly to technical and non-technical audiences alike.
