This is an excellent opportunity for a passionate individual with experience supporting pupils with SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs), ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) and challenging behaviours.

The school is looking for an outstanding Teaching Assistant who is committed to meeting the needs of pupils experiencing social communication difficulties, SEMH, ASD and a range of additional learning needs. The ability to motivate and inspire pupils towards achieving their full potential is essential, alongside excellent teamwork, classroom management and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support pupils' learning, development and wellbeing in a safe, positive and nurturing environment.
  • Build positive relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and responding effectively to individual needs.
  • Encourage engagement, participation and positive interactions during lessons and school activities.
  • Support behaviour management strategies, individual education plans (IEPs) and personalised learning programmes.
  • Promote inclusion, independence, confidence and social development.
  • Assist with personal care, welfare, hygiene, feeding, toileting and medication administration where required, following school policies and procedures.
  • Respond appropriately to challenging situations, supporting pupils' emotional regulation and wellbeing.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists and other professionals to ensure the best outcomes for pupils.

Supporting the Curriculum

  • Support pupils in accessing the curriculum, including literacy, numeracy and Key Stage learning objectives.
  • Help pupils understand lesson content and follow teacher instructions.
  • Assist with assessments, examinations and exam invigilation where required.
  • Support the use of ICT and learning resources to enhance pupil engagement.
  • Prepare and maintain classroom equipment and resources.
  • Maintain an awareness of how pupils' medical and additional needs may impact their learning and participation.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH, ASD and/or challenging behaviour.
  • A patient, resilient and proactive approach to supporting pupils with additional needs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • A genuine passion for helping young people overcome barriers to learning and achieve success.

If you are a committed and compassionate Teaching Assistant looking to make a meaningful difference in the lives of pupils with additional needs, we would love to hear from you.
