I'm working on an urgent Interim Finance Director opportunity with a commercially driven charitable organisation going through significant transformation.

Client Details

This is a medium sized children's health charity

Description

1. Finance Function Transformation
  • Assess current team structure (22 people) and define target operating model
  • Drive improved performance, accountability, and outputs
  • Identify inefficiencies and lead potential restructure / downsizing
  • Address capability gaps and performance issues decisively
2. Systems Optimisation
  • Fully embed and optimise Microsoft Business Central
  • Drive adoption and efficiency (current underutilisation)
  • Partner with internal Digital, Data & Tech team (strong capability in place)
3. Leadership & Culture
  • Build a high-performance culture
  • Coach and develop existing leadership
  • Manage difficult conversations and exits where required
  • Reduce over-reliance on key individuals
4. Strategic & Commercial Impact
  • Support development of the 5-year plan
  • Provide strong commercial insight and challenge
  • Partner closely with senior leadership, including incoming Treasurer
  • Improve finance's influence across the organisation
5. Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Break down silos, particularly with Fundraising
  • Enable better data, insight, and financial support for growth initiatives


Profile

Essential Experience
  • Proven number 1 in finance / transformation leader
  • Strong experience in team restructuring and performance turnaround
  • Ability to operate at pace and influence a high-performing exec team
  • Experience in Charity / SORP accounting
  • Strong systems mindset (Business Central desirable, not essential)
Desirable
  • Exposure to fundraising-led organisations
  • Experience working with Dynamics CRM
  • Commercial/entrepreneurial mindset within a not-for-profit environment

  • Highly intellectual, strategic thinker
  • Decisive and confident dealing with underperformance
  • Strong leadership and coaching capability
  • Able to build credibility quickly with senior stakeholders and Board
  • Hands-on, proactive and delivery-focused


Job Offer

  • Competitive salary of ~£120,000
  • ~ 6 month contract
  • Hybrid working (2-3 days central London, 1 day per fortnight in Bristol)
  • Start date ASAP
