About the role

In your role as Developed Market Equities Analyst, you will make a meaningful and valued contribution from the outset. This role will provide a great opportunity to generate high-quality company and industry research and analysis.

As an experienced Analyst within the Developed Market Equities (DME) team, you will produce high-quality investment research to support portfolio decisions, while reviewing and challenging the work of others. You’ll focus on sectors aligned to the team’s mandates, applying robust analysis, financial modelling, ESG considerations, and valuation techniques.

You will also contribute to the ongoing development of the DME investment platform - supporting idea generation (including sustainability themes), refining analytical frameworks, and enhancing tools for valuation, thesis tracking, engagement and voting.

Collaboration is key to this role. You’ll work closely with colleagues across the team, sharing knowledge, mentoring junior members, and helping to strengthen both internal capability and the external reputation of the equities business.

What you will be doing

As a trusted part of the Equities team you will be responsible for:

  1. Identifying investment opportunities which align with the DME investment philosophy
  2. Providing rigorous, fundamental research for each investment candidate to understand the business model, assess the company’s prospects and evaluate how the company is being valued by the market
  3. Taking ownership of allocated investment candidates and holdings, ensuring up-to-date knowledge and awareness of key material investment considerations (including ESG) which will be significant over the investment horizon of USS
  4. Documenting research (including engagement) and recommendations in line with the requirements set out in the Equities Documentation Requirements
  5. Continually evaluating the validity of the initial investment hypotheses in light of real-world evidence
  6. Seeking continuous improvement in the investment platform across all dimensions to deliver on the team’s objectives

Relationship and Communication Responsibilities

  1. Collaborating with other analysts within equities but also across the wider group - to include RI, PMG and Credit
  2. Regular meetings with Head of DM/GEMs and Portfolio Managers regarding the mandates, the evolution of their investment ideas and improvements to the investment research process and team development and efficiency
  3. Regular meetings with DM/GEMs colleagues on their investment ideas, improvements to their investment process and areas for individual development
  4. Engaging with the Responsible Investment team to ensure appropriate measures and integration of ESG issues as part of their investment assessments
  5. Communicating with sell side analysts, industry experts, consumers, and suppliers to support investment analysis
  6. Leading meetings with company management in an appropriate manner, maintaining and upholding USSIM's reputation.
  7. Business Continuity/Disaster Recovery: In the event of DC/DR incident the Analyst should inform their manager as

soon as possible of their whereabouts and follow instructions given to them
