Supporting Education Group

About Us:

At Supporting Education Group (SEG), we're here to empower the world of education. As the UK's leading education services platform, we bring together four specialist practices that support every corner of the sector - from teacher supply and SEN tutoring to qualifications, training and essential professional services.

We serve over 18,000 customers, employ 1,600 people, and generate over £288 million in revenue annually. Backed by private equity, our rapid growth - both organic and through acquisitions - means we're constantly evolving to meet the changing needs of schools, educators, and learners.

With central teams across technology, finance, people, and marketing, we're now entering an exciting transformation phase - simplifying how we work, consolidating contracts, and strengthening supplier relationships to build a more sustainable, efficient future.

About the Role:

We're looking for a talented Senior Management Accountant to join our Finance team on a 12-month Fixed-Term Contract, who will play a key role in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial reporting across multiple entities within the Group.

Working closely with Finance Operations and wider business stakeholders, you'll take ownership of month-end reporting, balance sheet reconciliations, management accounts, and financial analysis. You'll also support budgeting, forecasting, audit activities, and continuous improvements to financial processes and controls.

Alongside your technical responsibilities, you'll line manage and develop two junior team members, helping to build capability, drive high standards, and ensure the smooth delivery of finance activities throughout the reporting cycle.

Key responsibilities will include:

Month-End & Reporting:
  • Owning the preparation of monthly management accounts across multiple entities.
  • Producing variance analysis and performance reporting to support business decision-making.
  • Maintaining the integrity of the general ledger through accurate balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Preparing accruals, prepayments, journals, and other month-end adjustments.
  • Supporting the production of management reporting packs.
  • Collaborating with Finance Operations to ensure data accuracy and consistency.
  • Supporting budgeting and forecasting activities through financial analysis and insight.
  • Assisting with year-end processes and external audit requirements.
Controls & Compliance:
  • Ensuring compliance with accounting standards, internal controls, and financial policies.
  • Maintaining accurate financial records and supporting audit readiness.
  • Contributing to improvements in financial governance, reporting accuracy, and process consistency.
Team Leadership:
  • Line managing and developing two junior team members through coaching, feedback, and support.
  • Reviewing journals, reconciliations, and reporting outputs to ensure quality and accuracy.
  • Allocating and prioritising workload, particularly during month-end and year-end cycles.
  • Acting as the first point of escalation for technical finance queries.
  • Promoting a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and high performance.

About You:

We're looking for a technically strong and commercially minded finance professional who enjoys working in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

You'll be comfortable managing competing priorities, analysing complex financial information, and building effective relationships with both finance and non-finance stakeholders.

You'll ideally have:

  • ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualification (or be part-qualified with equivalent experience).
  • Strong management accounting and financial reporting experience.
  • Excellent technical accounting knowledge.
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience using ERP or reporting systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Previous experience managing or mentoring team members.

You'll also demonstrate:

  • A proactive, solutions-focused mindset.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
  • A collaborative and supportive approach.
  • Integrity, professionalism, and accountability in everything you do.
  • A commitment to continuous improvement and delivering high-quality work.
