About The British Home

The British Home is a respected care provider dedicated to enhancing the independence, dignity, and well-being of older adults, particularly those living with complex neurological conditions such as Parkinson’s disease, stroke, and other neurodegenerative disorders. We provide person-centred rehabilitation and long-term support in a compassionate, innovative, and inclusive environment.

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Neuro Occupational Therapist to lead and deliver high-quality neuro-rehabilitation services within our specialist care setting.

Neuro Occupational Therapist - Job Purpose

The Senior Neuro Occupational Therapist will provide expert occupational therapy assessment, intervention, and rehabilitation for residents with complex neurological conditions. You will lead a small team of occupational therapists and therapy assistants, contribute to service development, and work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams to maximise functional independence and quality of life.

Neuro Occupational Therapist - Key Responsibilities

Clinical Leadership & Practice

  • Conduct comprehensive, person-centred assessments of residents with neurological conditions, identifying functional goals and barriers to independence.
  • Develop, implement, and review individualised therapy programmes using evidence-based interventions (e.g., task-specific training, cognitive rehabilitation, fatigue management, assistive technology).
  • Provide specialist input in seating and postural management, upper limb rehabilitation, cognitive strategies, and activities of daily living.
  • Lead complex case management and provide clinical supervision to junior therapists and support staff.

Team & Service Development

  • Mentor and support occupational therapy staff and students, fostering a culture of continuous learning and clinical excellence.
  • Contribute to the development and evaluation of neuro-rehabilitation pathways and best practice protocols.
  • Promote the use of outcome measures (e.g., FIM, AMPS, Goal Attainment Scaling) to evaluate therapy effectiveness.
  • Represent occupational therapy at senior management and multi-agency meetings.

Interdisciplinary Collaboration

  • Work closely with physiotherapists, speech and language therapists, nurses, psychologists, and care staff to deliver integrated care.
  • Educate and advise care teams on adaptive techniques, equipment use, and environmental modifications to support independence.
  • Liaise with families, external health professionals, and community services to ensure seamless transitions and continuity of care.

Governance & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate, timely clinical records in line with professional and organisational standards.
  • Ensure compliance with HCPC standards, Royal College of Occupational Therapists (RCOT) guidelines, and CQC regulations.
  • Participate in audits, risk assessments, and quality improvement initiatives.

Neuro Occupational Therapist - Person Specification

Essential

  • Degree in Occupational Therapy (or equivalent) and current HCPC registration.
  • Significant post-qualification experience in adult neuro-rehabilitation (e.g., stroke, Parkinson’s, MS, MND).
  • Proven experience in a senior or lead therapy role.
  • Strong knowledge of neurological conditions and evidence-based OT interventions.
  • Experience in mentoring, supervision, and team leadership.
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Commitment to person-centred care, dignity, and inclusion.

Neuro Occupational Therapist - Desirable

  • Postgraduate qualification in neurology or rehabilitation (e.g., MSc, Bobath/NDT training).
  • Experience in care home or long-term rehabilitation settings.
  • Knowledge of assistive technology and complex seating.
  • Experience with CQC-regulated environments.

Neuro Occupational Therapist - Why Join Us?

  • Be part of a forward-thinking organisation committed to innovation in neurological care.
  • Access to ongoing professional development, training, and supervision.
  • Supportive, multidisciplinary team environment.

The British Home is an equal opportunities employer and welcomes applications from all sections of the community.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of vulnerable adults and expect all staff to share this commitment.

Successful candidates will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.
