Service Accountant - #2109993

Butler Rose is delighted to be working with a public sector client based in Harrow to recruit a qualified Service Accountant. This role will provide additional finance support to Childrens Services, working closely with the Finance Managers for Childrens Social Care and Education.

This is a temporary role offering hybrid working, with a mix of home working and office/on-site client premises. The role pays up to £38.45 per hour through an umbrella company.

The role will provide professional financial advice, support revenue and capital budget preparation, budget monitoring, forecasting, and year-end closure activities. You will build strong relationships with service teams, provide financial insight and challenge, and contribute to improvement and transformation projects.

Key responsibilities include:
* Leading budget setting for Children's Services
* Monitoring and forecasting revenue and capital budgets
* Managing grants and completing required statistical and financial returns
* Supporting and coordinating year-end accounts for Children's Services
* Providing clear, timely financial advice to senior managers
* Ensuring compliance with local authority financial regulations and accounting standards

What We're Looking For:
* The successful candidate will be a CCAB/CIMA qualified accountant (or near finalist with significant relevant experience)
* The successful candidate will have strong local authority finance experience, particularly within Children's Services or similar complex service areas.
* Experience in financial management, budget monitoring, and reporting
* Strong knowledge of revenue and capital accounting
* They will demonstrate excellent analytical skills, the ability to communicate financial information clearly, and the confidence to act as a trusted advisor to service managers.
* Demonstrates resilience, results-driven mindset, and the ability to quickly grasp tasks with minimal direction
