This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Construction & Engineering lawyer to move into, or further develop, a knowledge management career within a growing national practice. Working closely with partners and fee earners, you will ensure the team has access to high-quality precedents, practical know-how and innovative tools that support excellent client service. The role operates on a 3 or 4 day per week basis.

The team advises on both contentious and non-contentious matters and is recognised for its collaborative approach, technical expertise and commitment to innovation. The firm continues to invest in knowledge management, technology and AI to enhance both client service and lawyer effectiveness.

Description

The Role

Our client is seeking a Knowledge Management Lawyer to support its Construction & Engineering team. This is a flexible, part-time position, ideally three days per week, offering the opportunity to make a genuine impact on how knowledge is created, maintained and shared across the practice.

The successful candidate will take ownership of a substantial and technically complex precedent bank, ensuring lawyers have access to accurate, up-to-date and commercially relevant resources. The role also plays an important part in supporting the firm's wider innovation agenda, including document automation and the use of AI-driven legal technologies.

Key ResponsibilitiesPrecedents and Knowledge Management
  • Manage and develop the Construction & Engineering precedent bank, including firm and client-specific documentation.
  • Review and update precedents to reflect legal, regulatory and market developments.
  • Promote consistency and best practice in the use of precedents and knowledge resources.
  • Support the ongoing development of non-contentious construction documentation, including JCT and NEC amendments, consultant appointments and related agreements.
Legal Updates and Thought Leadership
  • Monitor developments in construction law and provide practical updates to the team.
  • Produce internal briefings, guidance notes and know-how materials.
  • Assist with client-facing updates, articles and publications.
  • Support the team's profile and market visibility through knowledge-based content.
Training and Development
  • Help design and deliver legal and technical training programmes.
  • Support the development of trainees and junior lawyers.
  • Contribute to onboarding and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
  • Encourage best practice in the use of knowledge resources across the team.
Innovation and Technology
  • Work closely with Knowledge & Innovation colleagues to improve how knowledge is captured and accessed.
  • Support document automation projects and workflow improvements.
  • Help embed new technologies, including AI tools, into day-to-day legal practice.
General Support
  • Respond to technical legal queries and research requests.
  • Assist with the preparation of materials for client seminars and events.
  • Collaborate with Risk & Compliance teams where appropriate.

Profile

Candidate ProfileEssential Experience
  • Qualified solicitor with experience in non-contentious Construction & Engineering law.
  • Strong drafting, technical and analytical skills.
  • Experience of working extensively with precedents and legal documentation.
  • Ability to communicate complex legal issues in a clear and practical way.
Desirable Experience
  • Previous experience in a Professional Support Lawyer (PSL) or Knowledge Management Lawyer role.
  • Familiarity with legal technology platforms, including Legora and Microsoft Copilot.
  • Experience delivering training or mentoring colleagues.
  • Knowledge of the Building Safety Act 2022 and its practical implications.
Suitable Level
  • This opportunity would suit an established Knowledge Management Lawyer, Professional Support Lawyer or an experienced Construction lawyer (typically 3+ years' PQE) looking to transition into a knowledge-focused role.
