Our client, an Oil and Gas Operator is seeking a Senior Credit Adviser to be based in London. This is an initial 12 month PAYE contract role with a hybrid working system in place.



Purpose of Role:


The Senior Credit Risk Adviser is an operational role within the Group Credit Risk function, responsible for carrying out credit assessments, monitoring counterparty exposures, and supporting the day-to-day management of credit risk across the business.


The role supports the protection of the organisation’s balance sheet by preparing credit analysis, maintaining credit limits, monitoring exposures, and helping to ensure credit decisions are made in line with Group policies and risk appetite.


The Senior Credit Risk Adviser works closely with colleagues across finance, marketing and trading, commercial, and treasury functions, providing practical credit risk support and escalating more complex matters where required.



Areas of Accountability, Responsibility and Competence:


Credit Assessment and Credit Limit Determination

Carry out creditworthiness assessments for new and existing counterparties, including customers, suppliers, joint venture partners, and financial institutions.

Perform detailed credit analysis using financial statements, market intelligence, credit ratings, and other qualitative and quantitative information.

Apply sound judgment when reviewing higher-risk or more complex exposures, escalating matters to the Credit Risk Manager where appropriate.

Prepare recommendations for credit limits, trading limits, and security requirements in line with delegated authorities and Group risk appetite.

Credit Risk Monitoring and Reporting

Monitor counterparty exposures, limit utilisation, and portfolio risk trends on an ongoing basis.

Identify emerging credit risks, deteriorating counterparties, and concentration risks, proposing timely mitigation actions.

Prepare regular credit risk reporting for management, including clear commentary on key movements, issues, and proposed actions.

Support scenario analysis and stress-testing activities to assess potential impacts on the credit portfolio.

Act as a point of contact for day-to-day credit-related queries, exceptions, and potential breaches, escalating where needed.

Credit Risk Management Framework

In close collaboration with the Credit Risk Manager:

Support the maintenance of the Group Credit Risk framework, policies, and supporting documentation.

Maintain and monitor Group credit limits, supporting exposure and risk reporting as required.

Support the management of trading limits, including counterparty approval status and security appetite.

Support the review and administration of PCGs and Letters of Credit across the Group, including:

Reviewing issuing bank acceptability and escalating recommendations for approval

Reviewing PCG and LoC structures and formats

Ongoing monitoring of exposure and validity

Continuous Improvement of the Credit Function

Support initiatives to improve credit risk processes, controls, and efficiency across the Group.

Contribute to improvements in approval workflows, templates, methodologies, and periodic credit review standards.

Make effective use of credit risk systems and tools, helping to maintain accurate data capture, monitoring, and reporting.

Share knowledge and support consistent ways of working across the credit risk function and wider business.

Compliance and Documentation

Ensure all credit activities comply with internal credit policies, governance standards, and relevant regulatory requirements.

Maintain robust, auditable documentation supporting all credit decisions, limits, and approvals.

Support internal and external audit activities relating to credit risk, addressing findings and recommendations as required.



Critical Skills, Qualifications, Experience, etc:


Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related discipline.

Strong experience in credit risk, credit management, or financial risk roles, ideally within energy, commodities, trading, banking, or capital-intensive industries.

Strong technical expertise in credit risk assessment, financial statement analysis, and counterparty risk management.

Ability to apply sound judgment to credit assessments and recognise when issues should be escalated.

Strong understanding of credit documentation, including PCGs, Letters of Credit and the credit elements under relevant Trading Documentation (EFETs/ISDAs) .

Good analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial and commercial information.

High proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial modelling.

Good stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to ask questions, challenge where appropriate, and work effectively with colleagues across the business.

Well organised, detail oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.

Practical, hands-on approach with the ability to follow through on actions and maintain accurate records.
