Java Software Engineer - Retail Banking (Contract)

Location: London (team based) | Remote from Manchester / Edinburgh considered
Contract: 6 Months
Rate: Via Umbrella

Overview

We are looking for multiple experienced Java Software Engineers (up to 9 roles) to join a high-performing engineering team within a leading retail banking organisation. You will be working on modern, cloud-native platforms delivering scalable digital banking solutions.

This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to customer-facing applications, with a strong focus on microservices architecture, continuous delivery, and full-stack development.

Key Responsibilities

Design, develop, and maintain microservices-based applications using Java and Spring Boot
Build scalable and resilient solutions aligned with modern engineering best practices
Develop engaging user interfaces using React and modern JavaScript frameworks
Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and drive Continuous Deployment practices
Deliver production-ready, cloud-native solutions on AWS
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Product, DevOps, and QA
Ensure code quality through testing, automation, and code reviews

Required Skills & Experience

Strong hands-on experience with Java (core) and Spring Boot
Proven track record building and maintaining microservices architectures
Solid front-end development experience using React and modern JavaScript
Experience working in CI/CD environments with Continuous Deployment
Strong understanding of cloud-based development (AWS preferred)
Experience delivering production-grade applications in agile environments

Desirable Experience

Exposure to mobile banking platforms or digital banking products
Experience within financial services / retail banking environments
Knowledge of DevOps practices and tooling
