A specialist boutique Tax Investigations firm, founded and run by experienced ex-HMRC professionals, is looking to appoint a Tax Investigations Manager to join its growing team.
This is an opportunity to join a business that genuinely specialises in HMRC enquiries and investigations, rather than offering tax investigations as one part of a wider tax service.
The firm has built its reputation around handling complex and sensitive HMRC matters, with particular expertise across COP8 and COP9 investigations.
The RoleYou will take responsibility for managing a portfolio of complex HMRC investigations, working closely with clients throughout the enquiry process and helping to achieve the best possible outcomes.
Key responsibilities will include:
Managing complex HMRC enquiries and tax investigations.
Handling COP8 and COP9 cases from inception through to resolution - essential.
Advising individuals and businesses on contentious and high-risk tax matters.
Managing correspondence and negotiations with HMRC.
Handling voluntary disclosures and settlement discussions.
Taking ownership of client relationships and case strategy.
Working closely with senior members of the team on particularly complex investigations.
Supporting the development of junior team members.
Contributing to the continued growth and development of the practice.

You'll need:
Strong experience in Tax Investigations / HMRC enquiries.
Proven hands-on experience handling both COP8 and COP9 cases - essential.
Strong understanding of HMRC investigation processes and procedures.
Excellent technical and written communication skills.
The ability to manage cases independently and take ownership of client relationships.
Strong commercial awareness and a client-focused approach.
Ex-HMRC experience is highly desirable but not essential. The key requirement is genuine, hands-on experience managing COP8 and COP9 investigations.
Why Join? This is an excellent opportunity to join a specialist boutique firm run by former HMRC professionals, giving you the chance to work alongside people with deep technical knowledge of the investigation process.
You'll benefit from:
A genuinely specialist Tax Investigations environment.
Exposure to complex and high-value COP8 and COP9 cases.
Direct access to experienced ex-HMRC professionals.
Greater ownership of clients and cases.
A collaborative and entrepreneurial culture.
Clear progression opportunities as the practice continues to grow.
Hybrid working, offering flexibility around your time in the London office.
£60,000 - £70,000 salary + benefits.
If you're an experienced Tax Investigations professional with COP8 and COP9 experience and want to join a specialist firm where your expertise will be genuinely valued, this is an opportunity worth exploring.
