Director Of Finance (Remote) - #2123208
Robertson Bell
Director of Finance
Up to £130k | Permanent | Fully Remote
Lead finance for a global climate organisation backed by major philanthropic funders.
We're partnering with a pioneering climate organisation managing significant philanthropic funding to support climate action globally. With multi-million-pound, multi-year relationships with leading international foundations, this is a Director of Finance role where philanthropic funding experience is essential.
Having recently transitioned to a UK charity after being physically hosted overseas for a number of years, the organisation is now at an exciting point of development. Finance needs to evolve with it, and this role will have a genuine opportunity to shape that future.
Why you'll want this role:
- Be at the heart of global climate funding – work directly alongside the Executive Team and major philanthropic funders, influencing how millions of pounds are secured, managed and deployed globally.
- Build the finance function for its next chapter – you won't be inheriting a finished operation. You'll have the freedom to assess what exists, challenge the status quo and define what great looks like.
- Have real strategic influence – work closely with the COO, Executive Team, Board and Finance & Audit Risk Committee, turning financial information into insight that shapes organisational decisions.
- Deliver visible transformation – introduce better systems, reporting and processes, including the implementation of Sage Intacct, and see the impact of your work quickly.
What you'll do:
- Shape financial strategy – lead budgeting, forecasting, cashflow and longer-term financial sustainability across a complex global grant-making organisation.
- Strengthen funder confidence – provide financial leadership across major funding relationships, from proposals and negotiations through to reporting, renewals and assurance.
- Transform finance – take a largely manual reporting environment and build a more automated, insightful and Board-ready function.
- Build the team and operating model – provide direction to a small finance team and determine what the right finance structure should look like for the future.
- Strengthen governance and risk – ensure the organisation has the controls, oversight and assurance needed to manage significant philanthropic funding responsibly.
What you'll bring:
- Senior finance leadership experience, ideally within a charity or not-for-profit.
- Direct experience working with major philanthropic funders is essential.
- Strong technical finance, governance and risk experience.
- A hands-on leadership style and the ability to operate comfortably between strategy and detail.
- Strong interpersonal and influencing skills.
You don't need to have held a Finance Director title before — this could be an excellent step up for a strong Head of Finance or number two ready for their first number one role.
Ready to build something with real impact?
If you're looking for a role where you can combine strategic influence, major philanthropic relationships and genuine finance transformation, we'd love to hear from you.
Fully remote within the UK, with quarterly in-person meetings in London and an annual team retreat.
