Our Court of Protection team supports vulnerable clients with mental impairments and their families to navigate issues or disputes relating to their health and welfare, including care arrangements, living arrangements, medical treatment, and contact with family members.

This is a rewarding area of law that combines legal analysis with direct client interaction, advocacy, and multidisciplinary working to protect the rights and welfare of vulnerable individuals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintaining accurate case records, diaries, and key deadlines in line with firm procedures.
  • Utilising case management systems, legal databases, and Microsoft Office applications effectively.
  • Applying detailed knowledge of relevant legal forms, processes, and procedures.
  • Ensuring compliance with firm policies, professional standards, and Legal Aid Agency requirements.

  • Contributing to the ongoing development and success of the department and wider firm.
  • Supporting the business development activities through networking, marketing initiatives, articles, training delivery, and attendance at events.
  • Building and maintaining strong working relationships with colleagues across the firm to promote collaboration and knowledge sharing.
  • Developing and strengthening partnerships with external organisations, advocacy groups, and key stakeholders.
  • Playing an active role in enhancing the department's profile, reputation, and growth.

Key Requirements

The ideal candidate will:

  • Be a qualified Solicitor admitted in England and Wales with a current practising certificate or a Chartered Legal Executive
  • Have experience in Court of Protection, Mental Health, Community Care, Public Law, or Family Law
  • Have a demonstrated experience managing your own caseload
  • Have a strong understanding of relevant Court of Protection legislation, procedures, protocols, and documentation.
  • Have strong advocacy skills
  • Have excellent knowledge of legal aid procedures
  • Have experience attending court or client meetings
  • Have excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex legal matters clearly, concisely, and sensitively to vulnerable clients and their families
  • Have a demonstrated ability to achieve billing and time recording targets appropriate to your level of experience.
