Leading law firm looking to recruit dedicated Court of Protection Paralegals for highly sought permanent positon.

Court of Protection Background:

Our client's Court of Protection finance team act as professional deputy, managing financial affairs for many vulnerable clients. Clients are referred by the Office of the Public Guardian to Philippa Barton as panel deputy, and by litigation teams acting for incapacitated clients who have recovered damages awards.

You will be responsible for day to day management of our clients’ finances including building good relationships with clients, dealing with one off requests for payments, making applications to the court, managing building projects, managing tax and insurance issues and completing OPG reports.

The team also act for clients applying to be appointed as lay deputy and deal with probate matters.

The team director is ranked in Legal 500 and Chambers. Client testimonials say that the team is “knowledgeable about all things Court of Protection” and they are “empathetic, approachable and diligent.”

The team is fast growing and very busy. The team works closely together and prioritises providing a high level of client care and a very efficient service.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Report directly to the Department Director.
  • Assist solicitors and fee earners with the management of Court of Protection files from inception to conclusion.
  • Support deputyship matters involving property and financial affairs and health and welfare issues.
  • Prepare and draft Court of Protection applications, witness statements, court forms, and supporting documentation under supervision.
  • Liaise with clients, family members, deputies, the Office of the Public Guardian, local authorities, healthcare professionals, and other third parties.
  • Take client instructions and maintain regular communication with vulnerable clients and their representatives.
  • Review and analyse medical records, mental capacity assessments, financial information, and other relevant evidence.
  • Conduct legal research relating to the Mental Capacity Act 2005, Court of Protection practice and procedures, and related areas of law.
  • Assist with the preparation of court bundles, hearing documentation, and correspondence.
  • Attend meetings, conferences, and Court hearings where required.
  • Maintain accurate file records and ensure compliance with internal procedures, regulatory obligations, and court deadlines.
  • Record time accurately and assist the team in meeting departmental objectives.
  • Implement feedback and recommendations from supervisors following file reviews.
  • Deliver excellent client care with professionalism, empathy, patience, and sensitivity.

Key Skills Required

  • Demonstrate passion and experience in a broad range of publicly funded Court of Protection matters
  • A strong academic background with a Law degree
  • Legal experience as a Court of Protection Paralegal/Advisor
  • Clear understanding and application of Court of Protection
  • Excellent communications skills to work effectively with all types of people
  • Excellent written communication and drafting skills
  • Excellent analytical and organisational skills and ability to use own initiative but know when to seek guidance
  • Committed team player, self -motivated and professional
  • Excellent IT Skills -familiar with Microsoft Office applications and document management skills
  • Business acumen and the ability to market the Company.
