I am working with a client who have a contract requirement for an experienced Data Governance SME to join their team and support the development and implementation of a federated data governance model.
This is a key role focused on building governance capability and capacity across the organisation. The successful candidate will bring a practical understanding of data governance frameworks and the ability to work with stakeholders to establish sustainable governance practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the design and build-out of a federated data governance operating model.
- Help establish clear data governance roles, responsibilities, ownership and accountability across business and data domains.
- Develop and embed governance processes, standards, policies and frameworks.
- Work with data owners, data stewards and business stakeholders to build data governance capability and capacity.
- Provide expert guidance on data governance principles, best practice and operating models.
- Support the development of data governance forums, processes and decision-making structures.
- Identify opportunities to improve data quality, ownership, stewardship and accountability.
- Help define and implement practical governance standards that can be adopted across different business areas.
- Support the organisation in moving from governance design into effective day-to-day execution.
- Act as a subject matter expert and trusted advisor to senior stakeholders.
- Coach and support internal teams to build sustainable data governance capability.
- Proven experience as a Data Governance Consultant, Data Governance Manager, Data Management Consultant or Data Governance SME.
- Strong experience designing or implementing data governance operating models and frameworks.
- Experience working within or developing a federated data governance model.
- Strong understanding of DAMA / DAMA-DMBOK principles and data management best practice.
- Experience defining data ownership, data stewardship, roles and responsibilities.
- Strong understanding of data governance processes, policies, standards and controls.
- Experience building data governance capability and capacity within an organisation.
- Excellent stakeholder management and consulting skills, with the ability to influence across business and technology teams.
- Comfortable providing leadership and subject matter expertise while remaining hands-on.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate data governance concepts into practical business outcomes.
- Experience within a large, complex or global organisation.
- Experience establishing governance across multiple data domains or business functions.
- Experience with data quality, metadata, master data or data management.
- Experience developing data governance maturity assessments and roadmaps.
- Experience coaching or mentoring data stewards and data owners.
- Relevant DAMA certification or formal DAMA-DMBOK training.
