Our Environmental contractor is seeking an Estimator / Assistant Quantity Surveyor to support both the pre-contract and post-contract functions based out of London offices in a hybrid/remote working permanent basis.

Our client is a specialist environmental contractor delivering nature-based engineering solutions across the UK. They design, build and supply innovative solutions for rivers, wetlands, shorelines and natural environments, supporting river restoration, habitat enhancement, soil erosion control, wetland creation, shoreline protection, spillway works, inland dredging and wider ecological infrastructure projects.

This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious commercial professional looking to develop a career within the environmental, civil engineering, and nature-based solutions sectors.

The successful candidate will be involved in the preparation of tenders and estimates, while also supporting the commercial management of live projects. The role offers exposure to a diverse portfolio of projects including river restoration, wetland creation, habitat enhancement, flood resilience and ecological engineering schemes.

This position can be based remotely or on a hybrid basis, with occasional travel to project sites and company locations as required.

Key Responsibilities

Estimating & Tendering

  • Review tender documentation, specifications and drawings.
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates and pricing submissions.
  • Obtain and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations.
  • Assist in the preparation of competitive tender submissions and bid documentation.
  • Support value engineering and alternative solution development.
  • Maintain and update estimating databases and historical cost information.
  • Participate in tender review meetings and handover processes.

Commercial & Quantity Surveying

  • Support the commercial management of projects from award through to completion.
  • Assist with subcontract procurement and administration.
  • Prepare and manage subcontract payment applications and assessments.
  • Support the preparation of applications for payment, valuations and final accounts.
  • Track project costs, budgets and forecasts.
  • Assist in the production of monthly cost reports and commercial performance reviews.
  • Support change control, variations and compensation event management where applicable.
  • Ensure commercial records are maintained accurately and efficiently.

Skills/experience/qualifications

  • Experience within estimating, quantity surveying or commercial administration.
  • Understanding of construction, civil engineering, environmental or infrastructure projects.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills.
  • Good commercial awareness and attention to detail.
  • Competent in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Experience within civil engineering, environmental works, water, flood resilience or ecological projects.
  • Knowledge of NEC contracts.
  • Experience preparing tender submissions and cost estimates.
  • Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or Construction-related qualification.
  • Membership of or working towards membership of an appropriate professional body (RICS, CIOB, ICES, etc.).
