Catering Manager (Interim - 6 Weeks or More)

• Hours: 36.5 hours per week, primarily during term time

We are seeking a dedicated and creative Catering Manager for an interim position of 6 weeks or potentially longer. The role involves leading a dynamic team across college sites, managing a coffee-based snack service with hot food provision during lunch hours, including special events. The ideal candidate will bring enthusiasm, creativity, and strong leadership to enhance our catering services.

Day-to-day of the role:

• Lead and manage the catering team across two shifts, ensuring high-quality service delivery.
• Plan and set a rotating simple hot food menu and manage special day menus and event catering.
• Oversee ordering, stock control, and cash handling operations.
• Manage the operating budget for the café(s) and provide weekly reports to the Facilities Manager.
• Maintain compliance with Food Standards Agency guidelines ensuring high standards of food hygiene.
• Use IT and administrative skills for daily performance reporting and managing KPIs.
• Conduct staff training on basic and refresher courses, ensuring all team members are up to date with the latest food safety and hygiene practices.
• Collaborate with other college stakeholders to promote income generation and enhance the service offerings of the café(s).

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Minimum of 3 years of experience in catering or food service management, preferably in an educational setting.
• Level 3 Food Hygiene & Safety for Catering or equivalent.
• Strong leadership and team management skills with excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Demonstrable knowledge of Food Safety and systems required for compliance.
• Proficient in financial management, budgeting, and stock control.
• Proficient IT user (MS Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Customer-focused with a passion for delivering exceptional service.
• Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving abilities.
• Adaptable and able to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
