Visiting & Tenancy Sustainment Officer

Location: Wembley, Brent (Site-Based Role)
Rate: £20.08 per hour PAYE | £26.44 per hour Ltd/Umbrella
Contract: Ongoing Temporary Assignment
Start Date: Immediate Start Available

About the Role

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Visiting & Tenancy Sustainment Officer to join a busy Housing team within a London Borough based in Brent. This is an excellent opportunity for a housing professional with a strong background in tenancy management, tenancy sustainment, resident engagement, and safeguarding.

This role is primarily site-based, with extensive travel across the borough visiting council tenants in their homes. As such, candidates must hold a full driving licence and have access to a vehicle. There is only limited opportunity to work from home.

As the face of the council, you will play a vital role in delivering outstanding resident-focused services, supporting vulnerable tenants, identifying risks, and helping residents sustain successful tenancies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and deliver a programme of home visits to council tenants across Brent.
  • Complete detailed tenancy visit assessments and prescribed data collection forms.
  • Conduct dynamic risk assessments within residents' homes, identifying health and safety concerns, including fire risks and evacuation challenges.
  • Identify and address issues relating to damp, mould, disrepair, and poor property conditions, referring cases to relevant teams as appropriate.
  • Provide residents with advice and realistic expectations regarding repairs and maintenance issues.
  • Identify and report suspected tenancy fraud or breaches of tenancy conditions.
  • Promote fire safety awareness, including testing smoke alarms and carbon monoxide devices.
  • Identify vulnerabilities, safeguarding concerns, abuse, neglect, or welfare risks and ensure appropriate referrals and support are in place.

Essential Requirements

Knowledge & Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of social housing and housing management services.
  • Knowledge of landlord responsibilities and safeguarding obligations.
  • CIH Level 3 qualification (or above) or equivalent housing management experience.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation, Fire Safety, Welfare and Employment issues.
  • Understanding of GDPR and data protection requirements.

Experience

  • Previous experience working within a housing association, local authority, ALMO, or similar housing environment.
  • Direct experience in a Visiting Officer, Tenancy Sustainment Officer, Housing Officer, Neighbourhood Officer, Resident Services Officer, or equivalent housing management role.
  • Experience supporting vulnerable residents and managing complex tenancy issues.
  • Experience carrying out home visits and resident assessments.

Candidate Profile

We are seeking a proactive and compassionate housing professional who can confidently work in residents' homes, identify support needs, manage risk, and deliver high-quality tenancy sustainment services. You will have a proven track record within social housing and be comfortable working independently across a designated patch.

Please note: This role requires extensive travel across Brent and is predominantly site-based. Access to a car is essential, and home working opportunities are very limited.
