Software Developer

Fully Remote | Competitive salary DOE | Permanent

About the Company

We’re representing a growing technology company that is building and operating a SaaS platform used by businesses to manage and deliver their services more effectively.

The business is at an exciting stage of growth, with a strong focus on building reliable technology, maintaining a high-quality platform and continuing to scale its products and integrations.

They are looking for an experienced Software Developer who enjoys solving real engineering problems, takes ownership of production systems and is comfortable working across a modern technology environment.

The Role

As a Software Developer, you’ll be involved in designing, developing and maintaining the company’s core platform and supporting the systems and integrations around it.

This is a hands-on engineering role suited to someone who enjoys building reliable software rather than chasing the latest technology for the sake of it.

You’ll work on backend services, APIs, integrations and production systems, while also being comfortable getting involved with frontend code when required.

About You

We’re looking for someone with approximately 4–6 years’ commercial software development experience. More experience is absolutely welcome, although the role is particularly suited to someone who has developed their skills within a stable engineering environment.

Ideally, you’ll have spent 3+ years with one company, demonstrating the ability to take ownership, maintain systems over time and see projects through.

Experience within a SaaS, platform or scale-up environment would be ideal, although strong agency/product development experience will also be considered.

Technical Experience

You should have:

  • Strong backend development experience in a serious programming language such as C#, Go, Java or similar.
  • Experience designing, building and maintaining APIs.
  • Experience owning or working with production systems.
  • Experience working with cloud-native environments or self-managed infrastructure.
  • Experience working with multiple third-party integrations.
  • An understanding of how to deal with flaky or unreliable dependencies.
  • Experience with concepts such as retries, idempotency, partial failures and reconciliation.
  • Strong debugging skills and the ability to work from logs, symptoms and limited information to identify the underlying issue.
  • The ability to read and make changes to modern frontend code when required. You don’t need to be a frontend specialist, but you shouldn’t be afraid of getting involved.

Engineering Mindset

We’re particularly interested in engineers who demonstrate strong engineering judgement.

You’ll ideally be someone who:

  • Has fixed bugs they didn’t create.
  • Has maintained and improved code they didn’t originally write.
  • Understands the trade-offs involved in engineering decisions.
  • Takes a pragmatic approach to technology.
  • Doesn’t feel the need to use the newest technology simply because it’s new.
  • Is comfortable taking ownership of problems in production.
  • Can work through issues calmly and methodically.

We’re looking for evidence of good engineering rather than buzzwords — someone practical, factual and comfortable getting stuck into real problems.

What’s on Offer

  • Fully remote working
  • Competitive salary, depending on experience
  • 25 days’ annual leave + public holidays
  • Flexible working hours
  • A sensible approach to working hours — no expectation of excessive or unrealistic startup hours
  • Company laptop and equipment, including monitors
  • Pension contribution
  • Permanent opportunity with a growing technology business
  • A collaborative environment where engineers have genuine ownership and influence over the technology

The Ideal Candidate

This role would suit a Software Developer / Software Engineer who has built up solid backend experience, has worked with production systems and integrations, and wants to join a company where they can have genuine ownership.

If you’re someone who enjoys solving problems, writing maintainable software and understanding how things actually work, rather than simply adding technologies to your CV, this could be a great fit.

We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at our company. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, colour, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.

By applying you are confirming you are happy to be added to the Addition Solutions mailing list regarding future suitable positions. You can opt out of this at any time simply by contacting one of our consultants.
