Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Software Project Manager to join a growing technology business delivering advanced software, warehouse automation and operational technology solutions across the logistics and industrial sectors.

The organisation is undergoing significant investment and transformation, with a particular focus on strengthening its software capability, modernising legacy platforms and enhancing the delivery of mission-critical solutions for customers operating highly automated environments.

This role will be responsible for leading software projects from requirements gathering and planning through development, testing, deployment and customer go-live. Working closely with software development teams, product specialists, automation engineers, operational stakeholders and customers, you will ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget and to the highest standards of quality.

The successful candidate will have strong project management experience within software delivery environments and be capable of operating confidently between technical teams and business stakeholders. While hands-on software development experience is not required, a strong understanding of software engineering principles, development lifecycles and system integration is essential.

Experience within logistics, intralogistics, warehouse automation, robotics, industrial automation, manufacturing software or systems integration environments would be highly advantageous.

Key Responsibilities

End-to-End Project Delivery

  • Take ownership of software projects throughout the full delivery lifecycle.
  • Define project scope, objectives, timelines, deliverables and success criteria.
  • Build and maintain comprehensive project plans covering development, testing, integration and deployment activities.
  • Coordinate internal and external stakeholders to ensure delivery against agreed milestones.
  • Ensure projects remain on schedule, within budget and aligned to customer expectations.
  • Monitor progress, identify risks and implement mitigation strategies where required.
  • Manage multiple concurrent projects and workstreams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Produce accurate project reporting for senior leadership and customers.
  • Lead regular project reviews and governance meetings.

Software Development & Technical Coordination

  • Work closely with software developers, architects and technical leads throughout project delivery.
  • Translate customer requirements into structured and actionable deliverables.
  • Coordinate development activities across multiple teams and disciplines.
  • Facilitate communication between technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Support development planning, backlog management and release scheduling.
  • Track progress against sprint objectives and project milestones.
  • Manage dependencies across software, infrastructure and operational teams.
  • Challenge delivery assumptions and timelines constructively where necessary.
  • Ensure technical decisions and project changes are properly documented.

Technology Modernisation Projects

A significant aspect of the role will involve supporting software modernisation initiatives aimed at improving scalability, performance and long-term maintainability.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Coordinating projects involving the migration of existing platforms to modern Microsoft technologies.
  • Supporting software transformation programmes involving .NET, C#, Blazor and cloud-based architectures.
  • Managing project delivery alongside ongoing customer commitments.
  • Ensuring migration activities are completed with minimal disruption to operational systems.
  • Tracking technical dependencies and implementation risks.
  • Working with technical leadership to establish delivery priorities.
  • Supporting improvements to governance, processes and software delivery standards.

Although knowledge of .NET, Blazor or cloud-based technologies would be beneficial, direct development experience is not required.

Testing, Validation & Release Management

  • Plan and coordinate software testing activities throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Manage functional testing, integration testing and user acceptance testing activities.
  • Monitor defect resolution processes and ensure issues are appropriately prioritised.
  • Coordinate release planning and deployment schedules.
  • Ensure testing criteria and acceptance standards are clearly defined.
  • Facilitate go-live readiness reviews and deployment approvals.
  • Support post-release reviews and lessons learned exercises.
  • Drive continuous improvement of testing and release procedures.

Integration & Commissioning

The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering software solutions that integrate with operational systems and automated technologies.

Responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating software integration projects involving third-party systems and equipment.
  • Supporting the deployment of software into live operational environments.
  • Managing technical dependencies between software teams and operational stakeholders.
  • Coordinating integration testing activities.
  • Supporting Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT).
  • Working closely with customers during commissioning and go-live phases.
  • Managing deployment risks and escalation processes.
  • Ensuring smooth transition into operational support.

Customer & Stakeholder Management

  • Act as the primary delivery contact throughout project execution.
  • Build strong relationships with customer stakeholders at all levels.
  • Lead project meetings covering progress updates, risks, issues and future milestones.
  • Manage customer expectations effectively.
  • Communicate project status clearly and professionally.
  • Present technical information in a commercially relevant and understandable manner.
  • Handle escalations and delivery challenges with a solutions-focused approach.
  • Collaborate with commercial and sales teams during project planning and mobilisation.
