Position Description

An exciting opportunity to join a newly established Futures & Commodities business in London at a formative stage. Working closely with the Head of Futures, you will be part of the core team building our front-office metals Sales & Trading capability from the ground up.

This role combines direct LME trading activity with commercial client coverage, execution, and market-making within agreed risk limits. The successful candidate will have solid experience in LME metals (or closely related commodity futures) and be keen to grow their book of business, expand client relationships, and contribute to developing a high-performance desk.

Key Areas of Responsibilities

  1. Work as part of the London Sales & Trading team to execute client orders and manage risk on the metals trading book.
  2. Price, execute, and manage trades in LME base metals across futures, options, spreads, and prompt-date arbitrage within delegated limits.
  3. Deliver high-quality client coverage, including market intelligence, structured trade ideas, and hedging strategies.
  4. Grow and maintain strong relationships with clients including producers, trading houses, funds, and industrial end-users.
  5. Source and onboard new execution and clearing clients, expanding the desk’s commercial reach.
  6. Collaborate with operations, risk, compliance, and treasury to ensure accurate trade capture, margin control, and settlement.
  7. Monitor and manage client risk exposures, collateral, and liquidity positions in line with risk policies.
  8. Proactively contribute to market-making activities and revenue generation opportunities.
  9. Keep abreast of market developments, competitor flows, and industry trends to identify trades and sales opportunities.
  10. Support the development of the desk’s processes, products, and coverage as the business grows.

Requirements

  1. Bachelor's degree or higher Mathematics, Finance, Economics, Business administration, or related discipline preferred.
  2. Minimum 5 years years’ metals trading or Sales & Trading experience at an LME broker, clearing member, bank, or merchant.
  3. FCA client-dealing certification preferred; SMCR awareness advantageous.
  4. Strong knowledge of LME market structure, prompt-date mechanics, spreads, and options; OTC experience advantageous.
  5. Demonstrated familiarity with LME trading systems (e.g., LME Select) and strong understanding of trade capture and clearing processes.
  6. Existing client relationships within metals markets and proven revenue generation ability.
  7. Risk-aware mindset with attention to detail and adherence to compliance/regulatory requirements.
  8. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to develop new business and maintain client trust.
  9. Motivated, collaborative, and eager to contribute to building a high-performance desk in a growing business.
  10. Fluent in both written and spoken English.
