Your new role
As Assistant Management Accountant, you will work closely with the Finance Manager and wider business to deliver accurate and timely financial information. The role will have a strong focus on management reporting, insurance data validation and business partnering with underwriting, claims and other operational stakeholders. You will gain exposure to a broad range of finance activities, making this an excellent opportunity for a part-qualified accountant who is looking to develop their technical insurance accounting experience within a growing business.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Preparing management information covering premiums, commissions, claims and other key financial performance measures.
- Extracting and analysing information from underwriting, claims and reserving systems.
- Reviewing insurance data to ensure information is complete, accurate and consistent with the relevant contracts and supporting documentation.
- Analysing paid and outstanding claims information and investigating potential anomalies within financial and operational data.
- Partnering with underwriting, claims and operational teams to respond to queries and provide meaningful financial insight.
- Preparing and posting non-technical expense journals, ensuring entries are accurate and supported by appropriate documentation.
- Supporting the month-end close process, including general ledger and trial balance activities.
- Assisting with the preparation of monthly profit and loss accounts and balance sheets across multiple business areas.
- Producing performance analysis to support commercial, underwriting and claims-related decision-making.
- Developing and maintaining financial dashboards and key performance indicators for internal stakeholders.
- Supporting the preparation of statutory accounts, regulatory reporting and tax-related submissions.
- Assisting with premium, claims and commission reporting for external insurance partners.
- Contributing to financial process improvements, automation initiatives and wider financial transformation projects.
- Supporting ad hoc reporting, analysis and project work as required.
What you'll need to succeed
- Part-qualified status through ACCA, CIMA or ACA, with a commitment to completing your professional qualification and actively studying towards completion.
- ****Previous accounting experience gained within the insurance sector****
- A good understanding of insurance accounting principles and financial reporting requirements.t.
- An understanding of insurance and reinsurance arrangements and how premiums, commissions and claims are recorded.
- Experience preparing management accounts, management information or financial performance reporting.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to identify inconsistencies or anomalies within large volumes of data.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to work accurately within reporting deadlines.
