We are recruiting for a Permanent SEMH Teacher to join a small, nurturing specialist school in Wembley, supporting primary-aged pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
This is an excellent opportunity for a teacher who is passionate about trauma-informed education, positive behaviour support and helping children develop confidence, emotional regulation and a love of learning.
About the Role
As an SEMH Teacher, you will take responsibility for the planning, delivery and assessment of a tailored curriculum for a small class of up to six pupils.
You will work as part of a close-knit class team alongside HLTAs and Teaching Assistants, providing guidance and day-to-day leadership to support staff.
The school takes a nurturing, therapeutic and trauma-aware approach, recognising that behaviour is often a form of communication and that children need to feel safe, understood and valued before they can fully engage in learning.
You will:
- Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons based on pupils' individual needs and abilities.
- Teach the National Curriculum across KS1 and KS2, including phonics.
- Support pupils with SEMH and special educational needs to overcome barriers to learning.
- Promote positive behaviour, self-regulation, independence and emotional wellbeing.
- Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils and families.
- Lead and support a class team of HLTAs and Teaching Assistants.
- Work closely with therapists, educational professionals and other members of the wider multidisciplinary team.
- Monitor and assess pupil progress and contribute to individual targets and reviews.
- Create a safe, stimulating and supportive classroom environment.
- Contribute to curriculum development and potentially take responsibility for a subject area.
- Participate in CPD, reflective practice, supervision and whole-school development.

- QTS – exceptional trainee teachers working towards QTS may also be considered.
- Successful teaching experience with primary-aged children.
- Experience teaching children with SEN and SEMH needs.
- Experience with planning, assessment and target-setting.
- Strong behaviour management and positive behaviour strategies.
- Experience teaching phonics.
- A good understanding of the impact of trauma, adverse childhood experiences, neurodivergence and complex SEMH needs on learning and behaviour.
