Are you an ambitious tax professional looking to specialize in tax controversy, or an established disputes specialist ready for a step up? A well-regarded Top 30 accountancy firm in London is expanding its dedicated Tax Disputes team following sustained practice growth and strategic investment.
This role offers high-visibility exposure to complex HMRC investigations, voluntary disclosures, and tax risk advisory-working directly alongside the Head of Tax Disputes in a supportive, growth-focused practice.
Key Responsibilities
Controversy & Investigations: Manage a diverse caseload including COP8 and COP9 investigations, HMRC enquiries, and complex voluntary disclosures.
HMRC Negotiations: Handle direct technical correspondence and negotiations with HMRC, including penalty mitigation and dispute resolution.
Risk Advisory: Perform detailed tax risk analysis and advise clients on controversy prevention and risk management strategies.
Portfolio & Collaboration: Take ownership of client matters while collaborating closely with wider internal tax, legal, and compliance teams.
About You
Senior Level (Career Switch): Newly CTA-qualified candidates with a strong foundation in Private Client or Corporate Tax within practice, showing a clear passion to pivot into tax disputes.
Assistant Manager Level: Experienced tax controversy specialist (or Senior ready to step up) with post-qualified practice experience and proven client management skills.
Technical Skills: Strong understanding of HMRC powers, penalty regimes, and enquiry processes, paired with sharp technical drafting and communication skills.
