Lead Technical Architect - SC Cleared - AWS Authentication

SR2 is supporting a high-profile, customer-facing digital programme and is looking for an experienced Lead Technical Architect to provide technical leadership and architectural direction across a complex delivery environment.

This is a senior, hands-on leadership role, taking ownership of technical strategy and outcomes, guiding multidisciplinary teams through complex design decisions and ensuring solutions are secure, scalable and aligned to wider programme objectives.

Due to the nature of the programme, candidates must hold active SC clearance.

Responsibilities

• Own and lead the technical architecture and direction across multiple delivery teams and workstreams

• Provide technical leadership to Technical Architects, Software Engineers and other technical specialists

• Set architectural standards, principles and guardrails to support consistent technical delivery

• Lead complex technical decision-making, assessing trade-offs and providing clear architectural recommendations

• Take ownership of technical outcomes from initial design through to implementation and live service

• Lead the architecture and integration of authentication, identity and authorisation services across customer-facing applications

• Ensure solutions meet appropriate security, scalability, resilience and performance requirements

• Work closely with engineering, product, delivery and security teams to translate programme objectives into effective technical solutions

• Identify and manage architectural risks, dependencies and technical constraints across the programme

• Provide technical assurance and challenge designs where required

• Influence senior technical and non-technical stakeholders, clearly communicating complex architectural decisions and recommendations

• Drive engineering and architecture best practice across Agile, DevOps and continuous delivery environments

Essential skills

• Significant experience operating as a Lead Technical Architect, Principal Technical Architect or senior Technical Architect

• Proven experience owning technical architecture and providing leadership across complex digital programmes

• Strong software engineering/development background with the ability to engage credibly with engineering teams

• Strong AWS architecture and cloud experience

• Strong understanding of identity, authentication and authorisation architecture

• Good working knowledge of OIDC and OAuth

• Experience architecting authentication integrations across user-facing web applications and digital services

• Strong understanding of application architecture, APIs, security, scalability, resilience and integration patterns

• Experience setting technical direction and providing architectural governance and assurance

• Experience leading and influencing technical teams within Agile multidisciplinary environments

• Strong understanding of DevOps, CI/CD and modern engineering practices

• Ability to communicate complex technical decisions to senior stakeholders and drive consensus across multiple teams

• Active SC clearance
