Role Overview

The Technical Designer plays an important role in translating creative design concepts into well-coordinated, practical and buildable technical solutions.

Working as part of a multidisciplinary design team, the role supports the development and delivery of technical design information across commercial workplace and interior projects. You will work closely with senior designers, project managers, consultants, contractors, suppliers and clients to ensure that designs are technically robust, coordinated, compliant and delivered to programme.

The role requires strong technical design and documentation skills, with a particular focus on commercial workplace interiors, Revit and AutoCAD. Experience within a design & build environment is desirable, alongside a pragmatic understanding of construction and project delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical Design & Documentation

• Develop technical design information from concept and developed design through to construction.
• Produce detailed technical drawings, layouts, specifications and documentation using Revit and AutoCAD.
• Translate design intent into practical, buildable solutions while maintaining design quality.
• Prepare and review technical drawing packages for tender and construction.
• Ensure drawings and documentation are accurate, coordinated and delivered to project deadlines.
• Apply a strong understanding of commercial workplace interiors, construction detailing, materials and buildability.

Coordination & Compliance

• Coordinate architectural and interior design information with MEP, structural and specialist consultants and contractors.
• Participate in technical coordination and design review meetings.
• Identify and resolve technical, coordination and construction issues.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant Building Regulations, standards, codes and client requirements.
• Apply an understanding of CDM 2015, Building Regulations and relevant health and safety requirements.
• Maintain accurate project information, document control and drawing standards.

Construction & Project Support

• Provide technical support to project and site teams throughout construction.
• Respond to RFIs and technical queries and assist with resolving site issues.
• Review shop drawings, samples and technical submissions where required.
• Support design changes and change control throughout project delivery.
• Assist with as-built information, practical completion documentation and project close-out.
• Work collaboratively with designers, project managers, commercial teams, consultants, contractors and suppliers.

Quality & Team Contribution

• Carry out technical quality checks and identify design risks at an early stage.
• Take ownership of allocated technical design tasks and deliver them to the required quality and programme.
• Contribute to internal design and technical reviews.
• Support the wider design team with technical knowledge and practical construction advice.
• Communicate technical information clearly and professionally with internal and external stakeholders.

Essential Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Architecture, Interior Architecture or a related discipline.
• 3+ years' relevant experience in technical design and project delivery.
• Commercial interior or workplace project experience is essential.
• Strong proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD is essential.
• Strong technical drawing, documentation and construction detailing skills.
• Good understanding of materials, finishes, buildability and construction processes.
• Experience coordinating design information across multiple disciplines.
• Good understanding of UK Building Regulations and relevant construction standards.
• Working knowledge of CDM 2015 and the responsibilities of a Designer.
• Ability to develop design information from concept through to construction.
• Experience working to project programmes and deadlines within a fast-paced environment.

Desirable Skills & Experience

• Design & build experience.
• Experience delivering commercial workplace or office fit-out projects.
• Experience working within a BIM environment.
• Experience with a Common Data Environment, preferably Autodesk Construction Cloud or similar.
• Knowledge of BREEAM, WELL or LEED.
• Experience supporting projects through construction and practical completion.
• Experience coordinating MEP, structural and specialist consultants.
• Understanding of planning and Building Regulations submission processes.
