Quantity Surveyor – Structured Cabling / M&E - London

We are recruiting for an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join a growing business delivering structured cabling and infrastructure projects.

This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially focused QS with experience within structured cabling, M&E, electrical contracting or the wider construction sector, who is comfortable managing projects from tender stage through to final account.

The Role

Working closely with the Head of Commercial, Project Managers and Site Managers, you will take responsibility for the commercial and contractual performance of projects.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Managing the commercial aspects of projects from tender through to final account
• Preparing and managing project budgets, cost plans and Bills of Quantities
• Monitoring project costs and identifying commercial risks and opportunities
• Preparing applications for payment, valuations and progress claims
• Managing variations, change orders and additional works
• Reviewing and agreeing subcontractor and supplier valuations
• Preparing and negotiating final accounts
• Obtaining and evaluating quotations from suppliers and subcontractors
• Negotiating commercial terms and supporting procurement
• Reviewing technical drawings, specifications and project documentation
• Assessing the commercial impact of design changes, delays and site issues
• Maintaining accurate commercial, cost and variation records
• Attending commercial and project meetings with clients, subcontractors and consultants
• Supporting contract administration and resolving commercial or contractual issues

We are looking for someone with previous experience as a Quantity Surveyor, Commercial Manager or Estimator within structured cabling, construction, M&E or electrical contracting.

Background

• Strong knowledge of M&E and construction practices
• Experience with variations, valuations, applications for payment and final accounts
• Good knowledge of subcontractor management and procurement
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications and technical documentation
• Strong commercial awareness and numerical skills
• Confidence negotiating with clients, suppliers and subcontractors
• Ability to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines
• Experience with NEC or JCT contracts would be beneficial
• Exposure to data centres, telecommunications or critical infrastructure projects would be advantageous

A degree or HNC/HND in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Construction Management, Electrical Engineering or a related subject would be advantageous, although candidates who are qualified through experience will also be considered.
