Business Development Manager - Payments Events

Central London, hybrid working + Travel

Salary up to £45,000 plus uncapped generous commission

Know payments? Help build a brand new flagship event.

Our client, an established B2B media and events business operating across fintech and payments, is launching a new flagship payments event in London in 2027. This is deliberately not another traditional payments conference. It is a festival format event combining exceptional content, carefully curated audiences, hospitality, networking, experiences and culture.

They are looking for a Business Development Manager who understands the payments ecosystem, enjoys building senior relationships and gets excited about helping shape a new product while taking it to market.

What you will be doing

  • Taking ownership of business development across the payments portfolio, with the 2027 launch as your immediate priority
  • Building and managing a strong pipeline of sponsors and strategic partners
  • Developing relationships with senior marketing, partnerships and commercial leaders across payments, fintech and adjacent technology markets
  • Re-engaging existing clients and growing them into larger, multi year portfolio relationships
  • Running discovery calls to understand client objectives, audiences and priorities
  • Creating and selling tailored proposals across partnerships, content activations, hospitality, experiences, private meetings, roundtables and bespoke campaigns
  • Working closely with audience, content, marketing and client success teams
  • Managing pipeline and forecasting through HubSpot
  • Attending industry events and building your own network within payments
  • Contributing ideas to the continued development of the event and wider portfolio

Payments knowledge matters - You do not need to have spent your whole career selling events, but you must understand the payments ecosystem and be comfortable talking with the companies operating in it. You may currently work in events, media, fintech, payments, SaaS, partnerships or another B2B commercial environment.

What you will bring

  • B2B business development or commercial experience - a passion for sales
  • A solid understanding of payments, fintech or financial services technology
  • Confidence engaging senior decision makers
  • Commercial ambition and motivation by targets
  • The ability to run a strong discovery conversation rather than jumping straight into a pitch
  • Enjoyment in opening new accounts as well as developing existing ones
  • Creativity in turning client objectives into commercial propositions
  • Strong organisation and discipline around pipeline management and follow up
  • A genuine desire to build something, rather than inherit an established sales patch

The person

Curious, entrepreneurial and relationship led. You will want to understand where payments is going, who the interesting companies and people are, and how to bring those communities together. You are comfortable picking up the phone and creating opportunities from nothing, yet equally at ease sitting across the table from a senior marketing or commercial leader discussing their 2027 strategy.

Why this role?

  • Help build a new flagship event from an early stage
  • Benefit from an established audience, client base and industry reputation
  • Work closely with the CEO with genuine input into how the product develops
  • Significant scope to grow and take on greater commercial responsibility as the portfolio scales
