The below job description will outline this position of Technical Superintendent – Electrical Bias.

Typically, this person will be an experienced maritime engineering professional with a strong electrical background and experience overseeing the technical operation, maintenance and development of high-speed vessels. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership across vessel maintenance, refits, upgrades, compliance and reliability, whilst supporting engineers and managing relationships with suppliers and contractors.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide technical expertise and support to engineering teams, acting as a senior technical point of contact for vessel-related issues.

• Oversee vessel upgrades, modifications, refits and enhancements, including technical specification, planning and delivery.

• Provide technical oversight during dry-docking periods, ensuring works are appropriately scoped, resourced and delivered to agreed timescales, quality and cost requirements.

• Work closely with engineering and dry-dock teams to plan annual, intermediate and unscheduled dry-dockings.

• Monitor vessel defects, investigate recurring issues and identify root causes, implementing long-term solutions to improve fleet reliability.

• Investigate operational delays and cancellations, identifying causes and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

• Liaise with external suppliers, contractors and internal engineering teams to ensure vessel defects are rectified within agreed SLAs.

• Manage contractor and supplier relationships, including warranty claims and ensuring suppliers meet agreed requirements.

• Support the development and implementation of technical improvements across the fleet and engineering facilities.

• Develop technical modifications and documentation to improve vessel reliability, efficiency and customer experience.

• Support the construction and commissioning of new-build vessels and major vessel upgrades.

• Ensure all relevant vessel documentation and engineering procedures are maintained and available for operational use.

• Ensure compliance with applicable maritime legislation and regulations, including MCA requirements, Port of London Authority requirements and the ISM Code.

• Support preparation for external audits, including annual DOC audits, ensuring consistent compliance throughout the year.

• Support investigations into incidents and non-conformances, assisting with root-cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions.

• Assist with hull and machinery insurance claims, from initial incident through to completion and invoicing.

• Review vessel maintenance schedules and operating hours to identify opportunities for improved productivity, efficiency and cost savings.

• Work alongside senior engineering personnel to develop business cases and technical proposals for fleet improvements.

• Provide technical input into budgets, maintenance planning and KPI reporting.

• Develop and deliver training to engineering staff covering quality standards, safety awareness and operational best practice.

• Promote a strong safety, quality and customer-focused culture across engineering operations.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Proven experience within a senior technical, engineering or superintendent position within the maritime sector.

• Strong electrical engineering background with the ability to provide technical support and guidance to engineering teams.

• Experience managing statutory and classification requirements within a maritime environment.

• Experience working with high-speed vessel propulsion systems.

• Experience with high-speed aluminium vessels.

• Familiarity with the ISM Code and maritime safety management systems.

• Familiarity with the IMO High Speed Craft Code.

• Good understanding of MCA legislation and wider maritime regulatory requirements.

• Experience of vessel maintenance, refit, dry-docking and technical upgrade projects.

• Experience managing suppliers, contractors and external service providers.

• Experience with budget management, cost control and KPI reporting.

• Strong fault-finding, problem-solving and root-cause analysis skills.

• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

• Ability to work effectively across engineering, operational and senior management teams.

• Comfortable working outside standard hours and providing technical support when required, including within a 24/7 operational environment.

Working Hours & Package

• Permanent position based in Greater London.

• Regular travel to vessels, dry-dock facilities and suppliers will be required.

• Non-standard working hours may be required depending on operational requirements.

• Participation in a 24/7 technical support environment.

• Salary: DOE.
