The Opportunity

An established and rapidly growing specialist contractor is looking to appoint a Senior Estimator to join its Structures and Pre-Construction team.

The business delivers technically complex projects across reinforced concrete, civils and structural engineering, working across major infrastructure, commercial, residential, energy and industrial developments.

This is a senior appointment within a growing division, offering the opportunity to take ownership of major tenders and play a key role in shaping bid strategy, commercial outcomes and future workload.

The Role

As Senior Estimator, you will lead the estimating process on major FRC, groundworks and civil engineering projects, working closely with operational, engineering and commercial teams from early opportunity through to contract award.

You will be responsible for:

• Leading the preparation and submission of major FRC and civils tenders.
• Developing detailed and commercially robust estimates.
• Establishing tender strategies in line with project and business objectives.
• Reviewing drawings, specifications, scopes and construction methodologies.
• Challenging proposed methodologies and identifying value-engineering opportunities.
• Coordinating input from design, engineering, commercial and operational teams.
• Managing subcontractor and supplier enquiries and evaluating returns.
• Developing tender programmes, risk registers and commercial assessments.
• Preparing tender settlement documentation and presenting bids to senior management.
• Engaging directly with clients, consultants and supply-chain partners.
• Attending tender interviews and supporting negotiations through to award.
• Ensuring an effective handover from pre-construction into project delivery.
• Supporting the development and mentoring of junior estimators.

Projects

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work across a varied portfolio of high-value and technically challenging projects, including major infrastructure, reinforced concrete structures, commercial developments, transport, energy and complex urban construction.

The business has delivered and continues to work on major schemes involving bridges, viaducts, tunnels, stations, high-rise developments and complex structural works.

About You

We're looking for an experienced estimator with a strong background in:

• Reinforced concrete / FRC
• Groundworks
• Civil engineering
• Structural engineering or specialist contracting

You'll ideally have experience managing significant tenders from initial enquiry through to submission and award, with the commercial awareness and technical understanding to challenge methodologies and develop competitive solutions.

You should also have:

• Strong knowledge of construction estimating and tendering.
• Experience working on complex or high-value projects.
• Excellent commercial and analytical skills.
• The ability to manage multiple tenders and competing deadlines.
• Strong subcontractor and supply-chain relationships.
• Experience leading or coordinating wider bid teams.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
• Experience with Candy or similar estimating software would be advantageous.
• RICS, CIOB, ICE or equivalent professional qualification would be beneficial.
