Interim Management Accountant

3 month contract with a renowned hospitality business, based in Central London.

Overall purpose of the role

The purpose of the role is to drive the management accounting and to support the business performance for a company with ambitious growth plans. The Management Accountant is a key member of the Finance team: working closely with both finance and non-finance colleagues at a senior level to provide timely and meaningful financial reporting, analysis and insight on performance to ensure targets are achieved. Although this is predominantly a management accounting role; the right candidate will show good commercial insight to be able to support the business throughout the year.

Main duties and responsibilities of the role

• Ownership of management accounts including monthly close, balance sheet completion, journal posting, review and account analysis alongside finance colleagues
• Prepare weekly sales and flash reporting for the business
• Support in gross profit review and gross margin analysis
• Prepare, analyse and interpret key financial and non-financial data and identify key performance issues to be addressed
• Work closely with colleagues across the finance team to continuously improve the quality of the finance service provided
• Support the team in audit process
• Provide guidance and support to the senior management team as requested
• Play a key role in controlling business processes and identifying improvements with the current finance system

Person Specification:

• Good education to at least graduate level/equivalent
• Appropriate accounting qualification (ACCA/CIMA)
• Previous Management Accounting experience a must
• Proven experience of working successfully in partnership with senior management on financial and business performance issues, preferably in a fast paced, multi-site, SME environment
• Proven experience of working in a high transactions business
• A high degree of commercial acumen is essential, together with the ability to think through the numbers and communicate effectively the interpretation of key issues in a clear, concise manner
• Strong process improvement and problem solving skills
• Strong attention to detail, without losing sight of the bigger picture.
• A rigorous mind-set and the ability to deliver timely and insightful information
• Proven capability to prioritise work, work under pressure and operate to tight deadlines
• A clear thinker, commercially focused, calm under pressure, and an excellent communicator
• Good influencing skills with senior managers, using clear logical data presented in a structured manner that shapes business decisions
