Role Summary

Is the next step in your career atSMBC Group EMEA? We're looking for an Information Governance Analyst (Assistant Vice President) for our EMEA Data Office (Operations Planning Department) to join our team.

This newly created role will help shape and embed Information Governance practices across SMBC EMEA, ensuring information assets are managed consistently, effectively and in line with regulatory expectations. Working with stakeholders across the business, you will support governance across records management, data retention, data quality and information risk management.

Key responsibilities:

  • Identify, assess and maintain oversight of information assets across SMBC EMEA.
  • Perform gap assessments against policies, standards and regulatory requirements, tracking remediation activities to completion.
  • Produce governance reporting and help embed Information Governance standards and good practice across the organisation.

    What we are looking for:

  • Experience operating Information Governance, Data Governance or Records Management frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of information lifecycle management, records management and data quality principles.
  • Proven ability to engage, influence and educate stakeholders across a complex organisation.

    Business Area

    EMEA Data Office

    The EMEA Data Office is responsible for defining and delivering the EMEA Data Strategy across SMBC Group EMEA, ensuring that data and information are managed effectively, governed appropriately and used to support business objectives. The team provides expertise across Data Architecture, Data Management, Data Quality and Information Governance, working closely with stakeholders across all business areas.

    As regulatory expectations continue to evolve, the Data Office is expanding its Information Governance capability to strengthen oversight of information assets, records management, data retention and related governance activities. This role offers the opportunity to join a growing function and play a key part in shaping and embedding Information Governance practices across the organisation.

    Position Description

    The Information Governance Analyst is a newly created role within the EMEA Data Office, supporting the continued development of Information Governance capability across SMBC Group EMEA. The role is responsible for helping to ensure that information assets are managed in a consistent, controlled and compliant manner throughout their lifecycle, supporting both business objectives and regulatory expectations.

    Working closely with stakeholders across all departments, the successful candidate will help identify and document information assets, assess compliance with governance standards, and support the implementation of improvements where gaps or risks are identified. This includes contributing to information inventory management, records management, data retention, data quality and broader information governance activities.

    The role provides an excellent opportunity to join a growing function and play a key part in embedding Information Governance practices across the organisation. The successful candidate will combine strong analytical skills with the ability to influence, educate and challenge stakeholders, helping to drive sustainable governance improvements and support the firm's evolving regulatory obligations.

    Key responsibilities include:
    • Maintaining visibility of information assets and supporting the development of information inventories and catalogues.
    • Assessing compliance with policies, standards and regulatory requirements, and tracking remediation activities.
    • Supporting governance initiatives relating to records management, data retention, information ownership and accountability.
    • Producing management information, governance reporting and materials for committees, forums and projects.
    • Working with stakeholders across the business to promote awareness and adoption of Information Governance standards and best practices.
    • Supporting the continued development and maturity of the Information Governance framework across SMBC EMEA.
