Position: Structural Engineer

Salary: £38,000 - £45,000 per annum plus pension, healthcare and benefits

Our client’s London office is their centre of excellence for building structures engineering. They handle technically challenging structural design projects, with emphasis on buildings in the capital. This is an opportunity to gain some of the best training and experience in the industry. As a member of a five strong building structures team, your first project will be a £20m mixed use development in Windsor, encompassing the refurbishment of several existing buildings, new structures, civils infrastructure and landscaping. More generally, your project workload will be varied, spanning high-rise commercial and residential, educational and healthcare . Their clients are typically leading architects and developers.

Company Overview: An independently owned, multi-disciplinary consultancy. Their core disciplines are civil, structural and geotechnical engineering. The practice has steadily expanded since its formation twenty years ago and provides national coverage through a regional network of offices. Lethaby and Cook has placed several engineers with the practice over the last decade, staff turnover is low and career progression is excellent.

Your Role: With support and guidance from an associate, you will be involved in detail design production and delivery. You will gain insight into the whole design process from concept stages, through to completion, and will attend design team meetings. There will be regular site visits, mainly in London, and frequent contact with client representatives. Projects will predominantly be designed for steel and reinforced concrete construction, but the innovative nature of their work means you are likely to encounter other more exotic materials. You will use their licenced structural design software including AutoCAD, Tekla, STAAD and Robot and have the opportunity to develop your Revit skills.

Training, Development, Progression: There is the choice of pursuing IStructE or ICE approved training. Their London office has chartered engineers and mentors from both institutions, each are highly skilled educators and engineers. They will provide technical support and practical on the job training. The day-to-day work will provide challenging structural design exposure, regular site visits and client contact. They are a successful business that nurtures and develops talent. The ideal conditions are in place to achieve chartered status swiftly.

Profile Required: A structural engineer with around one to three years building structures design experience, with a 2:1, or above, in civil or structural engineering. A strong desire to learn new skills and advance. Team spirited and able to work alongside a diverse cast of colleagues and clients. Ideally a graduate member of the IStructE or ICE.
