Our client a US Law firm whose London office, established in 1972, is the second-largest office of the Firm. It serves as a natural focal point for English law advice, as well as for cross-border European and cross-continental transactions.
The office serves major corporate, financial institution, investment banking, private equity, government, sovereign wealth, individual and family clients throughout Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Gulf regions and Central Asia, as well as our clients from outside these regions with interests there.
They are now looking for a Billing Manager, The Billing Manager plays a key role in supporting the Firm’s financial performance by delivering an efficient, commercially focused billing service. This hands-on role includes responsibility for handling partners’ billing, supporting the management of the billing team and working closely with partners and fee earners. The Billing Manager ensures that billing, work in progress, and collections are managed promptly and accurately in accordance with regulatory and Firm requirements.
Responsibilities
- Shared responsibility for the revenue lifecycle of the London Office.
- With support from the billing team, help the Partners with all aspects of the billing lifecycle.
- Ensuring compliance with VAT regulations, the SRA Accounts Rules, anti-money laundering regulations and Firm policies.
- Establishing a cyclical approach to billing and WIP management, including regular meetings with Partners to review WIP and accounts receivable balances.
- Producing financial and statistical information for Office Managing Partner, Administrative Director, Senior Manager – European Finance, Director of Billing & Collections and Partners.
- Working with the billing team to ensure timely processing and follow-up.
- Assisting with the collection of accounts receivable invoices. This includes routinely following-up with partners and clients to ensure timely payment and keeping the Director of Billing & Managing e-billing invoices and ensuring that required client information, such as client matter.
- Communicating regularly with the Senior Manager – European Finance to report on departmental performance.
- Developing and maintaining strong internal relationships with partners and fee earners to communicate departmental targets.
- Holding regular meetings with the billing team to review departmental performance and ensure that targets are communicated and achieved.
- Working with the Senior Manager – European Finance to train and develop the team and assist with appraisal and recruitment processes.
- In addition, responsibilities related to maintaining Firm and client information are to be adhered to by all employees. This includes complying with the firm’s information security policies, protecting firm assets from unauthorized access, disclosure, modification, destruction or interference, and reporting security events or potential events or other security risks to management.
Candidate Profile
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong IT skills, including advanced knowledge of Excel.
- Experience of using Elite 3E, Aderant or similar legal accounting systems.
- Self-motivated, with strong organizational skills and the ability to work under pressure.
- Ability to manage and prioritise own workload in order to meet deadlines.
- Proven ability of developing people and managing a team.
- Expert knowledge of UK and EU VAT regulations and SRA Accounts Rules.
- Experience of working with foreign currencies and various e-billing systems, including BillBlast.
- A-Level education or equivalent.
- Five to ten years of experience within a legal or professional services environment.
- Previous team management or supervisory experience.
