Rendall & Rittner

SENIOR PORTFOLIO ACCOUNTANT

  • Rendall & Rittner • Competitive • Home Based

ROLE OVERVIEW

You will play a pivotal role in delivering best-in-class financial management across a diverse portfolio of residential developments. As the trusted accounting partner to our property managers and clients, you will bring clear oversight, governance and insight to service charge finances, reserves and project spend, ensuring they are accurate, compliant and transparent.

This is a role for a seasoned accounting professional who thrives in a dynamic, people-focused environment. You will balance hands-on technical accounting with proactive stakeholder engagement, using your expertise to streamline processes, improve controls and tell the story behind the numbers so decisions are informed, timely and accountable.

ROLE EXPECTATIONS

You will own the end-to-end accounting cycle for your portfolio, from budgets and forecasts through to year-end accounts and audit, with a relentless focus on accuracy and clarity. You will partner closely with property managers, clients and auditors, solving problems early, communicating simply and keeping everyone aligned on financial performance and priorities.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

  • Clean, timely year-end service charge accounts delivered without surprises and with clear, accessible narratives for stakeholders.
  • Budgets and forecasts that are realistic, well-evidenced and delivered on time, with variances explained and actioned.
  • Cashflow, reserves and major works funds managed prudently, with risks flagged early and mitigations agreed.
  • Strong controls and reconciliations maintained, with issues resolved proactively and process improvements embedded.
  • Excellent relationships with property managers, clients, auditors and suppliers, built on responsiveness and trust.
  • Continuous improvement mindset demonstrated through smarter reporting, automation and better ways of working.

HOW YOU'LL SPEND MOST OF YOUR TIME

  • Preparing and reviewing annual budgets, quarterly forecasts and variance analyses for your portfolio.
  • Producing, reconciling and finalising service charge accounts, including accruals, prepayments and balance sheet reviews.
  • Managing cashflow, monitoring reserves and major works funds, and ensuring timely supplier and contractor payments.
  • Coordinating year-end processes and audits, responding to queries and providing clear working papers and evidence.
  • Partnering with property managers and clients to explain financials, support decision-making and resolve queries.
  • Enhancing processes, data quality and reporting through system use, standardisation and continuous improvement.

WHO THIS ROLE IS FOR

  • You bring depth in portfolio or multi-entity accounting and enjoy the responsibility of owning an end-to-end remit.
  • You communicate complex financial information simply and build strong, respectful relationships.
  • You are organised, deadline-driven and comfortable prioritising across a busy, varied workload.
  • You are detail-accurate yet commercially aware, spotting trends and risks and proposing pragmatic solutions.
  • You care about great service, take pride in your work and thrive in a collaborative, people-led culture.

EXPERIENCE THAT HELPS

  • Experience in residential property, service charge or multi-client accounting environments.
  • Working knowledge of year-end accounts preparation, audits and reconciliations in a portfolio context.
  • Familiarity with property management or accounting systems and using data to improve processes.
  • Exposure to budgeting, forecasting and cashflow management across multiple entities.
  • Experience collaborating with operational teams, clients and external auditors.

WHAT WE OFFER

  • Competitive salary
  • Discretionary bonus
  • 25 days holiday plus bank holidays, with the option to buy or sell holiday
  • Salary sacrifice scheme
  • Private healthcare (subject to seniority or 3 years' service), life assurance
