PERSONAL & EXECUTIVE ASSISTANT TO A SENIOR DIRECTOR - #2162729
London Works - Social Enterprise Recruitment Agency
This is not your typical PA/EA role. And this is not your typical Director.
We are looking for an exceptional Personal & Executive Assistant to provide a unique combination of high-level executive, administrative, personal and access support to a fast-paced senior Director.
The Director acquired sight loss in recent years, having previously built a successful career fully sighted, but this is not a care role.
This is a highly responsible professional position requiring outstanding organisation, initiative, emotional intelligence, empathy, discretion, adaptability and absolute reliability. The person you will be working alongside has a demanding career, an active personal and family life, a strong personality and an even stronger work ethic. She works at pace, expects high standards and needs someone who can keep up, think ahead and help remove the practical barriers that sight loss can create.
This role requires a combination that isn’t always easy to find:
Professional capability, Genuine empathy, Absolute trustworthiness, Exceptional reliability.
If you have all four, we’d like to hear from you.
HOURS & FLEXIBILITY
Our preference is a full-time 35-hour role. However, if you are an outstanding fit but seeking part-time hours, we encourage you to apply. We are open to discussing how the right arrangement could be structured.
Note on Pay: This position is available on an employed basis (£16–£20/hr plus benefits) or on a self-employed/contractor arrangement (higher hourly rate up to 27ph).
THE ROLE
You will work directly alongside the Director as a trusted professional partner. Your priorities will centre on enabling her to fulfil her professional responsibilities and access her wider life effectively. No two days look the same.
Executive & professional responsibilities include:
- Complex diary and inbox management
- Coordinating meetings, appointments and travel
- Preparing documents, correspondence and presentations
- Taking accurate notes and ensuring actions are followed through
- Managing information and maintaining excellent organisation
- Liaising confidently with colleagues, clients and senior stakeholders
- Reading, describing and making visual information accessible
- Supporting navigation in unfamiliar environments
- Accompanying the Director to meetings, events and engagements
- Anticipating potential barriers and finding practical solutions
PERSONAL & EXECUTIVE ASSISTANT MEANS BOTH
The role includes personal and practical tasks enabling the Director to manage her life and family responsibilities alongside a demanding career: personal administration, appointments, errands, family organization, and hands-on assistance where sight creates an unnecessary barrier.
You will be trusted with aspects of her personal and family world, requiring the same discretion, care, respect and professionalism brought to confidential business matters.
WHERE YOU’LL WORK
Your main base is a newly refurbished office in East London (near Canary Wharf). This is an in-person role working alongside the Director.
Depending on her diary, you may also work from client offices, events, cafés, her home, or other locations. Flexibility is essential.
MORE THAN A DIARY AND AN INBOX
Brilliant support means understanding that small things make a significant difference—whether that’s describing a room, discreetly checking her appearance before an event, making visual information accessible, or helping with quick practical tasks that would otherwise interrupt her flow.
These tasks aren’t about "looking after" someone, they’re about access, inclusion, and enabling independence.
TRUST & RELIABILITY MATTER
You will have access to both professional and personal spheres, requiring total integrity and situational awareness.
Because this is an access-enabling role, your presence directly affects whether the Director can attend a meeting, event, or commitment. Punctuality and dependability are foundational. If you say you’ll be there, she needs to know you’ll be there.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- Exceptionally reliable, punctual and consistent
- Strong PA/EA or business-support skills with meticulous detail
- Quick-thinking, proactive, and solutions-focused
- High emotional intelligence, warm, and empathetic (without being paternalistic or overprotective)
- Digitally confident and eager to learn accessibility tech
- Comfortable moving between different environments and working alongside a strong personality
- Understands that disability does not diminish someone’s autonomy, ambition, or standards
EXPERIENCE WITH SIGHT LOSS
Previous experience with sight loss is useful, but not essential. Mindset, capability, emotional intelligence, and integrity are what matter most, the technology and specific techniques can be taught.
THE PERSON YOU’LL BE WORKING WITH
The Director is vivacious, independent, ambitious, sociable, and hard-working. Losing her sight adapted how she accesses the world, but it did not change her drive, style, or appetite for life.
She works fast and thinks faster. The right assistant won't try to slow her down or overprotect her; you'll learn how she wants to be supported so her world remains accessible and limit-free.
WHO MIGHT BE BRILLIANT AT THIS?
Your exact background matters less than your combination of sharp admin, emotional intelligence, initiative, integrity, and absolute reliability.
If you want a role where the quality of your work directly enables another person to lead, live independently, and succeed, we’d love to hear from you.
This isn’t about looking after someone. It’s about providing exceptional support so that someone else can continue showing up fully in every part of their world.
