Overview
First Military Recruitment are currently seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor on behalf of one of our clients, an established civil engineering and infrastructure contractor.

The successful candidate will lead the commercial management of projects, ensuring effective cost control, accurate financial reporting, contractual compliance and risk management. The role will focus on infrastructure and water projects valued at approximately £1m–£5m.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage project costs, budgets, cash flow and financial forecasts.
  • Prepare monthly Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs), cost plans and commercial reports.
  • Oversee subcontractor procurement, negotiations, payments and final accounts.
  • Manage main contracts and subcontract agreements, primarily under NEC and IChemE forms.
  • Prepare applications for payment and support the recovery of additional costs.
  • Identify and manage commercial risks, opportunities and contractual obligations.
  • Liaise with clients, subcontractors, suppliers and project delivery teams.
  • Advise site teams on cost management, efficiencies and commercial performance.
  • Support and guide junior commercial staff.
  • Ensure compliance with commercial procedures and reporting requirements.

Skills and Qualifications
Essential

  • Previous experience in the construction industry.
  • Experience in Quantity Surveying on water or infrastructure projects.
  • Knowledge of NEC contracts, including target cost arrangements, and construction law.
  • Experience in commercial management and subcontractor procurement.
  • Demonstrable experience in monthly forecasting, CVRs and cost analysis.
  • Strong numerical, communication and IT skills, including Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent organisation and time management skills, with the ability to meet deadlines.

Desirable

  • HND, degree or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying.
  • RICS membership or membership of another relevant professional body, or working towards accreditation.
  • Valid CSCS card.
  • Experience with NEC3/NEC4 target cost contracts.
  • Estimating experience and experience working for a direct delivery contractor.
  • Previous experience managing projects valued at approximately £1m–£5m.
