Senior AI Platform Engineer - MCP | TypeScript | AWS | Agentic AI

We're working with an established, technology-led business in the sports betting industry that's investing heavily in AI, with ambitious plans to transform its platform through LLM integration, intelligent automation and agentic AI.

The business is establishing a dedicated AI engineering function and is looking for a Senior AI Platform Engineer to lead the architecture, design and implementation of a Model Context Protocol (MCP) gateway.

This will enable LLMs and AI agents to securely interact with existing services, APIs and business logic, laying the foundations for a wider AI strategy focused on intelligent automation, agentic workflows and personalised customer experiences.

This is a senior, hands-on position offering significant technical ownership, architectural influence and direct collaboration with the CTO and wider engineering teams.

You'll be responsible for delivering production-grade AI infrastructure, establishing engineering standards and helping shape the company's long-term AI roadmap.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the architecture, design and implementation of a scalable, production-grade MCP gateway across an established microservices platform.
• Develop secure MCP servers, tools and integrations, enabling LLMs and AI agents to interact with existing APIs and backend services.
• Design and deliver AI-powered applications and agentic workflows using TypeScript, Node.js, Python and AWS.
• Establish best practices around AI integration, authentication, authorisation, security and observability.
• Work closely with the CTO and engineering teams to define technical architecture, delivery priorities and the wider AI roadmap.
• Provide technical leadership, mentor engineers and drive the adoption of AI

Key Requirements

• Strong commercial experience in senior backend, platform or software engineering roles, with the ability to lead technical design and delivery.
• Advanced TypeScript, JavaScript and Node.js experience, particularly within microservices and distributed architectures.
• Strong hands-on AWS experience, designing and deploying scalable, cloud-native applications.
• Practical experience with Model Context Protocol (MCP), including MCP servers, gateways or tool integrations.
• Experience integrating LLMs, AI agents and agentic workflows into production applications.
• Strong understanding of REST APIs, service integration, authentication, authorisation and secure software development.
• Experience taking ownership of complex engineering projects, making architectural decisions and mentoring other engineers.

Desirable:

• Python, FastAPI, LangGraph, LangChain or similar AI frameworks.
• JSON-RPC, SSE, WebSockets and event-driven architectures.
• Experience with RAG, LLM function calling and context management.
• An interest in sport and the sports betting industry.
