Employment Tax Senior Manager / Director - #2169793
Rutherford Briant
An ambitious and growing mid-tier accountancy and advisory firm is looking for an Employment Tax Senior Manager or Director to help lead and expand its specialist offering in London.
The work is already there. The opportunity is to decide what the Employment Tax offering becomes next.
The firm has an established client base, a strong flow of internal referrals and more demand than the existing team can currently accommodate. You will therefore inherit meaningful client work from the outset, while having the freedom and backing to develop the service, build relationships across the firm and recruit additional capability as it grows.
This could suit an established, ambitious Manager seeking a genuine route to Director or an existing Director attracted by greater influence, autonomy and the opportunity to shape a growing specialist practice.
The opportunity
You will work directly with Partners and senior colleagues across Tax, Corporate Finance and the wider advisory business, advising entrepreneurial companies, owner-managed businesses and larger corporate groups.
The work will be varied and commercially focused, including:
- Complex PAYE, National Insurance, benefits and remuneration planning.
- Employment-related securities, EMI and wider share-based incentive arrangements.
- Growth shares, tax valuations and equity reward strategies.
- Employment tax due diligence for acquisitions and disposals.
- IR35, employment status, CIS and off-payroll working.
- Supporting clients through HMRC enquiries and changing legislation.
- Developing opportunities from an extensive existing client base.
- Building and mentoring the team as the service expands.
This is not a role dominated by processing returns or simply maintaining an inherited portfolio. The firm wants someone who can advise clients, spot opportunities and help create a distinctive Employment Tax offering within a well-resourced wider practice.
What you will bring
You will already have substantial UK Employment Tax experience gained within an accountancy, legal or specialist advisory environment.
You are likely to be ACA, ACCA, ATT or CTA qualified, although commercial judgement, technical credibility and the ability to build trusted senior relationships will matter more than a particular combination of letters.
You will be comfortable leading complex advisory work, developing client relationships and working collaboratively with other specialists. Previous experience of winning work, developing colleagues or building a service line would be particularly valuable.
What you will receive
- Salary of £80,000–£110,000, depending on experience.
- A genuine opportunity to shape and grow an established service.
- Immediate access to live work and an extensive client base.
- Support to recruit and develop the team as demand increases.
- Hybrid and flexible working.
- The resources and specialist reach of a substantial mid-tier firm without becoming another small part of a vast department.
This is an opportunity to join a firm at the point where demand, investment and ambition have aligned. You will have interesting work from day one and the influence to build something considerably bigger.
