Head of Product - Mobile & Web Platform / Senior Product Manager / Senior Technical Product Manager / Head of Product / Head of Mobile Product / Head of Platforms
We are looking for an experienced Head of / Senior Technical Product Manager to lead product management across our Web and Mobile Platforms. The role will connect platform strategy, stakeholder demand and engineering delivery, helping the teams build scalable, reusable, secure and high-quality capabilities for digital customer experiences.
The successful candidate will act as the bridge between Engineering, Product, Architecture, Security, Delivery and business stakeholders. They will create clarity on what the platform teams should deliver, why it matters, how it will be prioritised, and how delivery will be coordinated across teams and systems.
This role is suited to someone who is comfortable operating in a highly technical environment and who sees internal platforms as products. The platforms provide shared capabilities, standards, tooling, reusable components, governance and services that enable product teams to deliver customer value faster, more consistently and with appropriate controls.
Key accountabilities
Platform strategy and product direction
- Partner with Engineering Managers, Principal Engineers, Architects and Product Leadership to define and evolve the Web and Mobile Platform vision, strategy and target state.
- Translate strategic outcomes into clear platform objectives, measurable success criteria and sequenced roadmaps.
- Balance immediate delivery needs with longer-term platform health, scalability, security, maintainability and developer experience.
- Ensure investment decisions align with organisational priorities and demonstrate clear value to platform consumers and customers.
Stakeholder discovery and alignment
- Build trusted relationships with engineers, engineering managers, product managers, Heads of Product, Security, Architecture, Risk, Delivery, Design, Operations and other stakeholders.
- Lead discovery conversations and workshops to understand needs, pain points, priorities, constraints and expected outcomes.
- Turn diverse stakeholder input into clear problem statements, requirements and decision-ready options.
- Develop consensus across teams, resolve competing priorities and communicate decisions transparently.
Demand intake and governance
- Define, implement and continuously improve a consistent intake process for all requests entering the platform teams.
- Act as the primary gatekeeper for demand, ensuring requests are appropriately documented, assessed, challenged and routed.
Product discovery and backlog ownership
- Own and maintain the Web and Mobile Platform product backlogs, Jira Product Discovery boards and delivery Kanban boards.
- Translate validated needs into outcomes, initiatives, epics, features and sufficiently detailed backlog items.
Platform adoption and continuous improvement
- Drive awareness and adoption of platform capabilities, standards and approved ways of working across product engineering teams.
- Partner with engineering to improve documentation, onboarding, self-service tooling, service definitions and support models.
- Gather feedback and usage insight from platform consumers and use it to improve the product experience and roadmap.
Experience and skills:
Essential
- Significant product management experience in software engineering or digital technology environments, including ownership of technical products, platforms, developer tooling or shared services.
- Proven experience of building and managing product backlogs, discovery pipelines, prioritisation frameworks and multi-horizon roadmaps.
- Experience working closely with software engineering, architecture, security and delivery teams on complex technical initiatives.
- Strong understanding of Agile and Kanban delivery practices, with the judgement to apply them pragmatically.
- Ability to turn ambiguous stakeholder needs into clear outcomes, requirements, decisions and executable plans.
- Strong commercial awareness, with experience supporting budgets, investment planning, forecasting or portfolio management.
Technical understanding
The candidate does not need to be a hands-on engineer, but must be able to understand technical concepts, ask effective questions and facilitate informed trade-off decisions. Relevant knowledge may include:
- Modern web platforms and frontend architecture, including component-based development, design systems and micro frontends.
- Mobile application platforms and delivery, including React Native and native iOS and Android considerations.
- Cloud platforms, APIs, integration patterns, microservices and event-driven architecture.
- CI/CD pipelines, developer tooling, observability, operational readiness and software delivery lifecycle practices.
- Security, privacy, resilience, accessibility, performance and compliance requirements for customer-facing digital platforms.
- Platform engineering principles, self-service capabilities, governance, standardisation and developer experience.
